I still own COP, CVX, KO, WMT and GE. I sold my MDT and INTC just before the drop as they did not seem to fit my style for now. I also have NGG and did not think it had much of a following in US.

I did not know Buffet had worked in the HUMINT field?

  • Should a 25 Year Old's Portfolio Differ Much from a Retiree's? Part 1: The Logic [View article]
When in my 20s I was in the Army. No need to say there was no money to save. Now all is paid for and we invest each month. We have had many of the same stocks for years, such as jnj, mcd, cvx, eng, d, and ngg, things everyone uses all the time. to me, bonds are not as safe as my stocks. Yep, they went down on the down days these last weeks and up on the up days. Our dividends are higher than bonds and bonds have a risk of loss of value as do stocks.

I am not a buyer of overseas firms, their laws to not provide as much cover as US law, so I buy US firms with an overseas exposure of 30% or more and that pay a good dividend. I have lived in Asia and Europe and when I say lived, I mean I lived in the same place and manner the locals lived so I know their laws do not cover them so no way they cover me.

I have put my money where my ? is and bought MCD,D, NGG, JNJ, XOM MO, and PM in the last four three days. I graduated from the best school of risk management. It taught to set fear aside and look at the stats and I see a future brighter than today. I also see a problem as I do not spend money I do not have and my government does not follow my lead. Elect more farmers and housewives and fewer of those in the field of law. Viel gluck to all, retired vet.

  • Should Dividend Growth Investors Forgive General Electric? Part 2: The Jeffrey Immelt Era [View article]
I do wonder what happens in the future if GE has an increase in taxes, lots of people in congress have heard about their zero tax rate.

I do not invest directly in foreign stocks, I would rather buy a US firm that has 35% or more profits from foreign operations. US laws are a little more farorable to investors than foreign investment laws and then there is the research area, where I doubt almost anything a foreign company claims. I lived in Asia and Europe too long.

I do not think china can maintain the current growth rate and something must fail somewhere there.

my only problem with S&P is I remember them giving good reports on firms and financial stuff that then went belly up. I do not see the firm as an honest rater of financial things in general. they are a little late with the advise.

  • U.S. Energy Policy Is Responsible for Unrest in Egypt [View article]
some one has sold the idea that we "must" buy oil from places other north america. I suggest everyone do some research, look for unused oil reserves, new places to drill, and push to have our cars to be NG fueled. Coal is dirty, I saw a family member come home covered in black dust and he only worked as a crew member on trains hauling coal. It is the largest energy assest we have, so work on reducing the by-products and making it burn cleaner.
The wind thing is great, but will not work for some time due to the lack of a power grid. We buy oil from countries without trees wihile our fellow Americans hug each and every tree without any thought of energy. We could be using the trees as energy but that is a dirty fuel also.

I say use what we have while be convert to wind, sun, and gas. The major oils are working on other means now, it will take time to produce another fuel at a affordable cost, so conserve what you have now. Please do some research on oil reserves, use the USGS and others to look (google) for it. We are not allowed to drill so we are not allowed to produce oil..
