  • Selective Dividend Reinvestment Vs. DRIP [View article]
Excellent article. I could have written it myself (sentiment wise).
You are investing in exactly the same way that I invest.
I prefer the selective reinvesting strategy as the monthly subscriptions somewhat outweigh the dividends. However, the regular subscription together with the erratic dividends mean that there is enough for sizeable purchases when I consider such purchase to desirable. Therefore, the dealing costs are less significant.
I wonder how many others of us are out there using a similar strategy?

  • BP - The Horizons Have Widened Again [View article]
I really want to get back in with BP but I just won't until something is resolved with the legal issues.
Either BP is hammered then I will buy in at a nice low price OR
BP will win some sort of victory, in which case I will buy in at slightly raised price and wait for everyone else to pile in after.
I know, I know about buying with blood on the walls but I am not sure that the blood is not still flowing.

  • BP stands by its Russian Investments, Dudley says [View news story]
BP made a bit more from their Russian enterprises than they lost in their American ones; if I remember correctly!

I don't think we will see this price again so I went in again today. Another 999 shares into my portfolio.

  • BP exec says company getting closer to bidding on federal contracts [View news story]
Sadly, it seems wherever there is oil in the ground there is maladministration above ground. The US of A seems no better than others in this respect. If the US cleaned it's act up as much as BP tried to do then everyone would be better off for it.
I will not buy in again until the dust settles on any crazy judgement yet to come down.

  • Rolls Royce: Robust Demand From Civil Aerospace Will Offset Declining Defense Spending [View article]
Although somewhat overweight in RR I just want to see it's touched bottom before I pile into this fantastic stock at this low low price.

  • BHP Billiton, King Of The Miners [View article]
This share remains my worst performer, though Rolls Royce is challenging it. Still I hang on in there, in hope of better times to come.

  • Unilever net profit up, sales down [View news story]
This result seems to be "steady as she goes". Everything seems to be increasing if not at the rate it was but these are difficult times. So overall not displeased. The market seems to agree and it has recovered much of it's recent losses. Glad I increased my holding on the recent dip!
Unilever is one of my core stocks and I plan for it to remain so.

  • Stryker - Latest Small Addition Of Patient Safety Technologies Does Not Move The Needle [View article]
SYK have risen their dividend by at least 18% annually over the last 8 years. I believe they will try to maintain this record going forward. They are actively buying their own shares which should help them to maintain this. Their recent acquisitions look like they will fit in well with their medical operation equipment approach.
I plan to stay long on SYK for the foreseeable future.

  • BP cites escort service receiving $173K as abuse of Gulf spill damage claims [View news story]
The USA will pay dearly for its treatment of BP. Yes, in the short term it can rape BP and make a few dollars but having sown the wind the USA will reap the whirlwind.
BP made mistakes (but so did others) and stepped up, poured money in and tried to be a help. For this the company has been vilified.
Exon on the other hand poured money into lawyers to fight every claim. Exon paid a fraction of what BP has.
Lesson to be learned by every CEO - Use every spare dollar in the courts and under no circumstances make a BP mistake and pay victims.
This is not a good outlook for the future,
