Scoots, T is currently a great stock for monthly income. AAPL is not....unless you have all those millions someone was talking about.

The MG Method works great for me as a starting point. I think Mr. Clark does us a service by giving us this analytical information. We should then begin our own due diligence to make our decisions. Dow's been around a very long time and thanks for bringing this one to my attention once again.

Flock, with one caveat re ROTH: you cannot write off losses in a ROTH if your stock/s go down and you sell at a loss.

And of course, consider buying stock in a/your phone company till you get enough dividends to take that bill out of the paycheck. Then double that so you can reinvest again and still have the dividend cash to pay your phone bill.

Diva, I probably had much the same kind of investing and dripping experience as you in the beginning, which for me was the tech bubble period in 1999 - 2003. I lost just about everything. However, I don't view it the same as you. I saw it as a very important lesson in investing and I learned from it. The biggest lesson I learned was to diversify and don't put too much money in one particular stock. Try to weight them somewhat equally (unless you know something we don't know). :o) Just do your homework, read all you can, and keep to a regular investing schedule.

Papa, excellent advice, especially re the ROTH for both her and her daughter. Totally tax free forever, you simply pay the tax up front. Sharebuilder also automatically drips for free.

As a consumer, your cogent and beautifully worded article hits home with me. A bank here on the East Coast recently and completely changed their online banking site. There was no previous notice by email, or any other means. The site was down for several days with no previous notice. When it came back up, it could not be accessed with a Firefox or other browser: only Internet Explorer. After four emails asking when it would be accessible to me and others via Firefox, I kept getting a standard answer, with no further information addressing my question. Today, four weeks later, I still cannot access it with Firefox. I'm a VERY unhappy customer and will be moving my accounts soon. Oddly, each time I visit the site, it comes up with a survey, asking what I think of the new site. It gets all thumbs down from me...but absolutely nothing has happened as a result of the survey. What better example (besides yours) of how to lose not only money, but also customers. Thanks for this great article. It is so true.

JB: Oh please. You sound like a robot. This site is mainly many small individual investors with not that much discretionary income. They look to make more with the small amount they have. And you want to turn them into statistics for [what] advantage? Shudder. I already subscribe to FastGraphs with the small amount of discretionary income I have. I won't be subscribing to anything more.
