  • Investors Need To Think Twice About McDonald's [View article]
With quality of their burgers being a key issue, I went and had one of their lettuce and tomato Sirloin Burgers on a sesame seed bun over Memorial Day weekend. I must say it was really superior to anything I've had there over the last 5 years. That and a very large peach tea was about $7. Works for me and I'll be getting that again. Long McD.

Getting into that gasoline powered car each day to drive to work may well involve more risk than what Shell will undertake.

BL: don't believe everything you read. In my opinion, I'm not so sure that the Oxford Club is legit in that regard. I've heard it's more about mass marketing.

  • Retired Investors: When Dividend Growth Slows What Should You Do? [View article]
"Royal Dutch Shell (NYSE:RDS.B) and Digital Realty (NYSE:DLR) are two success stories of my use of the bench. Both Digital Realty and RSD.B have since been removed from the bench, "

You don't say if you then sold them or returned them to your portfolio. Don't want to take anything you're saying for granted. With Shell being such a great dividend payer at 5.96%, albeit frozen but not cut for now, and having paid it for many many years, how would you replace a dividend stock like that with a similar degree of certainty?

  • Project $3 Million - Portfolio Management, New Purchase [View article]
Hilo, I'm with you on the Synchrony thing. I haven't heard a word about this and I still (begrudgingly) hold a few hundred shares. I'm losing patience. Perseverance isn't working for me on this one. I am up a couple dollars per share, but the rest of the picture is disappointing.

  • Forget About Timing The Market [View article]
Again, Lynch's work covered 30 years. Eli's only covered 19. 11 years is a fairly long period of time to leave out when making a comparison...and the 19 include two major dives. We are talking about time in the market here.

That being said, I have a real problem with the fact that Lynch's original study was done using 30 years. Eli: you only used 19 years. Seems to me the results could be skewed by 1/3 or more.
