  • Senate Slams Apple On Tax Avoidance [View article]
Milehr. You are sooooooo naive. You can't buy senators, they are only available for rent.

  • The Nokia Lumia Sellout - Most Likely A Marketing Strategy [View article]
It does not make sense to intentionally limit supply this close to Christmas. That would be really, really dumb. I don't think Nokia is dumb. They have sold a lot of product.

If there is a supply problem, that is more of an issue. After all the phones that they have built, Nokia should know how to manage a supply chain.

  • Microsoft Is Threatening To Break Down [View article]
That was a whole lot of nothing. Contradicting information and no explanation. Poorly written, I have no idea the point that is being made.

  • Apple Set To Lose Big Time In EU State Aid Case [View article]
How can Apple be held liable for complying with the local laws? The EU has a longstanding complaint against Ireland for setting corporate tax rates too low. Since Ireland refuses to accommodate the EU, the EU's new strategy is to harass companies that do business from Ireland. Its pretty sleazy even for the EU.

The EU is a flawed concept. If the union is going to continue they have to restructure. All members will have to have identical tax structure, all will have identical social spending, limits will need to be placed on deficit spending. Until then the member countries and the EU residents will do whatever is in their own best interest, not what is in the best interest of the EU.

McCain: If Apple has done something illegal bring charges. Don't expect them to pay unrequired tax out of shame. If you do not like the law, YOU are in a position to change the law.

  • Boeing -1% as McCarthy calls for letting U.S. Export-Import Bank expire [View news story]
The bank doesn't cost the govt much, if anything. Just administrative costs. Its just like cosigning a loan for your kid. You are lending your credit rating to the an aircraft buyer.

Its possible the real reason some lawmakers oppose it is pressure from US based international airlines. Quote "Delta Air Lines (DAL), however, opposes reauthorization of the bank and says taxpayers shouldn’t make it easier for foreign competitors to buy jets." They do not want to give anyone a competitive break.

Last I saw Boeing was the largest exporter in the country. Don't give the business to Airbus. The planes will still be purchased and will compete with US airlines in the foreign markets. Except they will be Airbus aircraft.

  • Why I Will Start Social Security At Age 62 [View article]
I have been telling people this same story for years with almost the exact same break even chart. I did not include historical cola's. This is exactly opposite what most retirement planners tell people. I can't count the number of articles I have read on yahoo saying it is best to wait until 70 to start taking payments. I am beginning to think there is a national conspiracy to get people to delay Social Security because its cheaper for the govt.

  • Nokia tablet specs reportedly leak; Google blocks YouTube WP app [View news story]
Flyby is right. Google gave Microsoft a loaded gun and dared them to shoot. Google will probably claim anti-trust against MS if they block Google search. MS will probably lose the case and a lot of customer's good will. MS will look like the bad guy. Google may be looking for some concession from MS. It could be something completely unrelated to Youtube.

I find it hard to believe that anyone will be interested in a $500 RT tablet. I would not even put that on the market. I would be very interested in a Haswell based tablet based on Win8 if they can come in at a cost more reasonable than Surface. I played with a Surface at the MS Store and it is awesome, just over priced.

  • Why Windows 8.1 Is Irrelevant And It's Time For Investors To Look Toward Windows 9 [View article]
Investorinvesting: Have you ever actually used Vista or even Win8 on a capable machine? Honestly?

I said there were two types of people who hate Microsoft. There is a third: Those who wanted an expensive and ultra-cool Mac but the IT guy would only provide a cost effective PC. They went to war with the IT department over purchasing and lost. Now they sulk in their cubicle everytime they hit power button and obsessively hate anything Microsoft.

If you hate MS, don't buy their products and short their stock. If MS is forced on you by your IT dept find another more enlightened company. Its pretty simple. Maybe you will even make a little money at it.

  • Intel And Microsoft: Leading The PC Industry To The Next Stage [View article]
What I really want is PC at home/work, a tablet/notebook for travel, and a smart phone for day to day use. They should all have similar operating systems. They should be able to share data seamlessly and run similar software. Schedules, documents, email, and whatever. If Microsoft can deliver on all counts they will keep me as a customer.

  • Sirius XM In Serious Trouble As Mobile Revolution Gives Rise To Social Radio [View article]
Sirius will probably not be made obsolete by any broadband based system. In addition to the commercial free subscription fee, you still have to pay for a broadband cell phone connection if you go mobile which is getting much more expensive. The days of unlimited mobile data are done and gone. It probably ok listening at home or at work. I have a portable XM radio which I move between my cars, my house and at my cabin (no cell phone, poor radio reception and no internet coverage). Cost is reasonable (but is going up), the programming is great, and the sound quality is really top notch. Almost as good as CD much better than MP3. I can always find something I want to listen to. Music, comedy, sports, talk or news. My taste in music is not so narrow that I need to program my own station.

This may sound like a commercial for Siri/XM. I invest in companies that deliver products that I have found to be outstanding (Buffet rule), good fundamentals and have growth potential (especially scalability). It has worked for me to various degrees. Notables are Apple, Amazon, Micky D. Sometimes you make a bad call and I have made a few. I looked into Pandora (as a consumer) and I am not impressed with the business model or the service.

The consumer market will prove me right or wrong.

  • Apple Watch: Disruptive, Profitable, And Yes, The Next Big Thing [View article]
It is a good looking watch. The initial sales will be the fan boys. After that sales will be by word of mouth. I might be interested in the sports version. The primary factor is how well it works. Does it reliably record your pulse? What is the real battery life? Do you have to have the iPhone on you person for all functions, some functions or just to download the data? After that is just a list of features and how many of those features are really useful. I bought Apple years ago when my kids were buying iPods, downloading music and would not touch anything else. They love every Apple product and service. I will have to see how they react to the new watch before I buy/sell any Apple stock. Each of them will own the watch within a year.

  • Sirius XM: A Strong Sell [View article]
Comparing Siri to Pandora and other online services is not really relevant. I use Sirius enough so that the data fees would be more than the cost of subscription. Its not just content it is delivery. The customer will have to choose.

  • Report: Microsoft thinking of allowing Android apps on Windows/WP [View news story]
Sound to me like a good idea. Allowing Windows to run Android apps and Apple apps would be a great idea. Go big or go home.

  • Sirius forms independent committee for Liberty bid, shares remain at premium [View news story]
I don't want a stock trade regardless of terms. I have owned XM since it went public. Rode the ups and downs because the concept is great. Bought a boat load when it hit its depths. I was planning to stick with Siri long term. I think the potential of satellite broadcasting is far from being realized. More market penetration and new products like the connected car. I don't want it diluted with a partial share of Liberty. Especially not under Liberty management. If the trade goes through I will probably cash out regardless of the price.
