  • The smart money is selling, writes Ukarlewitz, commenting on the plummeting Smart Money/Dumb Money Confidence Index from SentimenTrader. The measure has a reasonable track record over the last few years at pointing out market tops and bottoms, and it's screaming "top" right now. Whether it's a 5% correction or something worse remains to be seen, but insiders see something bad coming and they're bailing out. [View news story]
I'M NOT FAMILIAR WITH UKARLEWITZ. COULD YOU SUPPLY ME BIOGRAPHICAL DATA. aRE YOU FINANCIAL ANALYST? IF SO, WHAT FIRM; A NEWSLETTER AUTHOR?, IF SO WHAT PUBLICATION.

    THANKS

  • A striking reversal, Vanguard's Emerging Markets ETF (VWO) suffered $700M in outflows last week in the wake of its plan to switch benchmarks from MSCI to FTSE. The iShares competitor (EEM) - remaining with MSCI - pulled in $850M. Prior to this, the vast majority of emerging market ETF flows this year had gone into VWO (far lower fees). Institutional investors are clearly skittish about the new benchmark. [View news story]
WOULD VERY MUCH LIKE TO SEE A DISCUSSION OF WHY THE CHANGE, AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, WHAT IT MIGHT MEAN TO INVESTORS. THANKS

  • Skip The DRIP; Start To DIP [View article]
THANK YOU, MICHAEL, FOR SHARING YOUR VIEWS.
ON AN INTELLECTUAL, NON-EMOTIONAL LEVEL I CAN AGREE WITH YOU COMPLETELY.
FROM A PRACTICAL VIEWPOINT, HOWEVER, AS AN INDIVIDUAL, RETIRED INVESTOR, I FEEL THIS PROCEDURE
IS LIKELY TO HAVW A NEGATIVE IMPACT.
FOR ONE THING, IF WE ARE FACED EACH THREE MONTH WITH THE DECISION TO REINVEST DIVIDENDS OR HOLD THEM UNTIL THE SHARES DECLINE, THE ODDS ARE
WE WILL MAKE THE WRONG DECISION OR MAKE NO DECISION, AND OVER A PERIOD OF TIME MISS THE
    RISE IN A STOCK.
ALSO, SINCE AS NON-PROFESSIONALS WE DO NOT ALWAYS CAREFULLY MONITOR MARKET ACTION, ETC WE CAN MISS DEVELOPMENTS IN THE MARKET OR IN INDIVIDUAL STOCKS.
FINALLY, BUT OF LEAST IMPORT, YOUR SUGGESTED APPROACH ADD TO OUR COMMISSIONS.

  • Waste Management (WM) recovers from its early dip this morning, on the back of a Barron's article over the weekend that questioned how long the company will be able to keep paying its generous dividends. The yield has steadily kept pace with the stock price, currently standing at 4%, but its revenue, profits, margins and cash flow "have been stagnant for years" and the company is trying to cut costs and rightsize its operations. Going forward, it looks like it's going to be tough to maintain the same growth track. [View news story]

When will there be national network of NG truck stops?
What is cost basis for frac NG currently ?
