Video On Demand: The Real Threat To Netflix and Blockbuster?

For video on demand to really take off, these companies are going to have to offer HD movies. Many of them already can, others like Adelphia (recently acquired by Comcast) did not offer any "on demand" services in my area period. With so much talk about video on demand over the internet, I think you nailed where the real threat to BBI and NFLX will come from - video on demand via cable. As more people want/expect to view their movies in HD, internet VOD is going to struggle to keep up, but cable already has the bandwidth and the infrastructure in place to make this happen without having to download the movie overnight before you can watch it - a truly "on demand" service.
