  • Retirement Strategy: Did You Freak This Week? [View article]
    RS,
As so many have taught me here on SA, hammering the point home over and over, I did absolutely nothing. Wish I could have purchased some but just didn't have the opportunity. Still down 5.5% as of Thursday evening.

  • Retaining A Cautious Position In HCP [View article]

  • Stop Panicking, Especially About The Wrong Things [View article]
I like your point of view, Dana. I talked with a buddy of mine yesterday who told me that he moved half of his holdings into a cash position, and he referenced Geopolitical stuff and a couple of other factors. I'm holding steady and the dividends come in like clockwork. Happy weekend.

  • Retirement Strategy: Waiting For A Correction; Surprise! We Are Having One! [View article]
RS, another great article. I calculated yesterday that my Vanguard IRA, my main nest egg, is down 5% from a few months ago. I'm hoping that is just noise and normal fluctuation. The dividends have been coming in quite nicely, though, and judging from the first half of this year, I am on track to break my earlier record of annual income by this 12/31. Still holding 12% in cash just in case of real opportunities.

George, I always enjoy your articles, and many other Contributors, too. I'm always amazed at some of the harsh criticism, sometimes bordering on a personal level, that some Contributors receive. The SA forum is on the whole an excellent public square for financial discourse. It is a shame that the discourse sometimes makes a reader wince at some of the comments. Keep up the good work, George, keep a thick skin.

  • Scanning The SA Family For Alpha: AceSwat [View article]
Do you think the market is ready for a major correction sometime this year?

I have no idea; that said, a correction could of course happen, but major? I doubt it.

Do you believe that the economy is on the verge of another recession along with a bear market?

As a commenter said above, there are so many families living on the edge that it is likely we remain in the tail end of the previous recession. Bear market? I haven't a clue. I'm just an regular guy with no formal finance training, only that gleaned from 4 years of reading SA voraciously. I am the CFO of my family's portfolio.

Are you selling dividend growth stocks to keep in cash now? No, just trimming and tweaking here and there.

As a DGI'er, are you planning on buying more shares of dividend champs when the market corrects? You bet.

Are your cash reserves sufficient to give you a cushion so you won't fall into that panic mode of buying high and selling low?

Yes. Holding 12% cash. Dripping current holdings.

Rose, I'm a fan of yours and am glad to see you are a Contributor. I bought a partial position in MAT a year or so ago, and sold it all two days ago. Should have bought HAS at same time, as I like to "pair" competitors sometimes, like T and VZ. Anyway, thanks for the good work and please keep writing.
