  • ChannelAdvisor Data Springs Large Negative Surprise For [View article]
Amazon could easily increase its price for some of their segments and quit/sell some of their unprofitable segments and earn good profits to justify the compagny to be cheap below 100$. This would put the growth rate very low but would help earnings for sure.

But I still see the risk even at 100$ if they dont want to stop competing in unprofitable segments...

But at 26$ I would buy a large amount of calls...

  • Goldman is working with NetApp (NTAP) to explore options, Bloomberg reports in an updated version of its story about Elliott Associates' stake. Not surprisingly, Elliott is said to be pushing NetApp to return cash, and to be proposing a new director slate. NetApp ($13.9B market cap) had $6.7B in cash/investments on its balance sheet as of Jan. 24, and $2.2B in debt. The company doesn't pay a dividend. Piper believes NetApp is planning to cut 1,300 jobs (~10% of its workforce) in underperforming areas such as its Engenio high-performance storage unit (acquired in 2011 from LSI). Shares +1.6% AH after jumping 6.1% in regular trading. [View news story]

  • Workday's Bubble Is About To Pop [View article]
The question about theses stock is if they will keep their competitive advantage after the large cost associated with booking clients. If they do over the long term they will earn big profits and may be worth a lot later. If they dont, it is worth a lot less... And I think the odds of keeping a BIG competitive advantage needs to be close to 100% to justify this valuation for most cloud stocks.

And well I dont remember a new industry where most of the early entrants where still dominant a few years later... Usually only a few stay strong.

It seems just too obvious and easy... I bought a lot of puts myself and I dont see how this could not go lower around lock up with all those shares that venture caps and other insiders will want to sell.

    We will see.

I am with Joseph on this, it is going to create bank runs in many weak eu contries (PIGS). The initial reaction to Lehman was small and it took a few days to become a disaster. I expect a gap up tommorow and when people realize there are bank runs, watch out...

  • A deal has reportedly been reached for a group of Russian investors to buy one of Cyprus' banks for €4B. If so, it would greatly reduce the country's financing needs. The euro (FXE) moves about 40 pops higher, and European shares (FEZ) add nearly 1% to their gains. SPY at session highs, +0.6% premarket. Update at 8:35: A Cyrpus government spokesman is denying any such deal. [View news story]
