  • This won't help get rid of those iPhone 5 shortages: China Labor Watch claims 3K-4K Foxconn workers at a plant in the city of Zhengzhou went on strike this afternoon, protesting over a lack of quality control training needed to meet the iPhone 5's (AAPL -2.1%) exceptional requirements, and demands to work during a holiday. Multiple iPhone 5 production lines were reportedly put into a "state of paralysis." Two weeks ago, Foxconn had to shut down another Chinese plant due to a riot. Update: Foxconn denies a strike occurred, and claims production remains on schedule. [View news story]
Wait till Japan and China square off, then the "overpriced"American worker will start to look like a bargin.

  • Though Apple (AAPL) continues to heavily promote Siri - it just hired John Malkovich to do some ads - the voice assistant service, which is powered by Nuance's (NUAN) voice recognition technology, remains a lightning rod for criticism. Disgruntled user Jon Friedman calls Siri a "gimmick for self-indulgent people with a tremendous amount of time on their hands." "Steve would have lost his mind over Siri," a former Apple employee recently told Adam Lashinsky.  [View news story]
Weird, everyome I know loves Siri and have become reliant on her.

  • If you're not bribing, you're not trying. A misquote of retired baseball player Mark Grace suddenly seems appropriate with a bevy of U.S. companies now under suspicion of engaging in systemic bribing in order to land new business. A whopping 81 public companies are reportedly under investigation for violating the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. Headliners: WMT, AVP, QCOM, DE, LVS.  [View news story]
I got caught in a speed trap in Mexico. The officer then showed me what it would cost if I paid at the jail. Then he brings out another sheet, and shows me his discount pricing. I pay and leave. No ticket, no traffic school, no insurance worries. The same goes for starting a business in most foreign countries. We need to get off our moral high horse!
