  • Netflix (NFLX) roars to a 12% gain as the dreamy week for investors roars on. That makes for a 79% YTD return for a company that made just $8M in profits during its last quarter while Apple raked in a cool $13B to fall 12%. Money manager Ivanhoff capital sums up the action: "Expectations matter." [View news story]
nasdaq.com gives the short interest only biweekly. I don't think you can get the info freely from anywhere else faster than nasdaq.com.

If I am wrong, please somebody correct me here!

  • Nvidia: Why An Intel-Based Sell-Off Makes No Sense [View article]
AMD is reporting on Tuesday. From there, I think we can tell how big the discrete graphic market was and how much market share NVDA has gained or lost. Ashraf, can you then write an analysis based on AMD report about your guess about NVDA?

  • Intel's (INTC) Q4 earnings are due out later, with analysts expecting that EPS fell to $0.45 from $0.64 while revenue dropped to $13.52B from $13.89B. Intel is struggling to overcome a falling market for its PC chips and the European economic slump, although it is benefiting from a shift to new data-center technologies. The chipmaker is also about to lose departing CEO Paul Otellini, but analysts don't expect an announcement about his successor today. [View news story]

Earning call is 22-Jan-13. Market doesn't know that how 'exactly' fast they are burning cash or if the management is taking any new positive new directions, and what is really happening to the inventory.

Looking forward to the conference call!

  • Apple: Get Ready For January 18 [View article]
You are stating contradictory things! If institutions are hedged to neutral with respect to the options that they sell, so why should they 'care' about what happens to AAPL?

  • Apple (AAPL) has cut iPhone 5 component orders for calendar Q1 due to weaker-than-expected demand, sources tell the WSJ; display orders are said to be cut by ~50%. The Nikkei also claims display orders have been halved, albeit from an elevated level of 65M. The articles back up analyst reports of iPhone production and component order cuts, and raise the question of whether Apple needs a cheaper iPhone and/or one with a larger display to bolster its international share. I don't like QQQ at all. The weights are absurd! SPY seems to be a better index IMHO.

  • Market recap: Stocks gave back gains to finish flat, as investors reassessed the implications of the Fed's new asset purchases and its pledge to keep interest rates low as long as unemployment remains above 6.5%. After a quick pop, the news seemed to remind everyone just how weak the U.S. economy is. Crude oil gained 1.1%; 10-year Treasurys yields rose to 1.7% as Bernanke finished his talk. [View news story]

They won't get it till the earning report comes. The best time to short this stock is the day before the earning, and covering just one day later!

  • No Value In Netflix: Is Carl Icahn Wrong? [View article]
The volume of NFLX is so low in recent days. My guess is that the stock is so capricious that both longs and shorts have become 'scared' to touch it anyways.

  • Facebook (FB) shares are -1.05% premarket ahead of today's expiry on a lock-up of another 800M shares, the third and biggest expiration since the social network's IPO. Analysts are divided over the impact that the end of lock-up will have: the two previous expirations caused a sharp decline in Facebook's stock price, although sentiment on Wall Street has since improved following the company's Q3 earnings report. [View news story]

  • Amazon Prime (AMZN) tests a new $7.99 per month option for users who don't want to pay the $79 annual membership fee. The company sees the lower upfront number potentially helping it compete against Hulu and Netflix (NFLX) with their own $7.99 pricing. If the strategy works, the company also lands more revenue per user in the long run. [View news story]

  • Feltl and Needham offer contrasting opinions on Cirrus Logic (CRUS -10.2%) in response to its FQ2 report and FQ3/FQ4 guidance (I, II, III). Feltl, downgrading to Hold, is worried product mix is contributing to margin pressure, not just Apple. Needham, upgrading to Strong Buy, now thinks Cirrus is getting $3.25 per iPhone thanks to higher iPhone 5 dollar content - that's $0.50 above a prior forecast, and responsible for a surging ASP. Needham believes Apple made up 79% of FQ2 sales. (transcript[View news story]
Is there anyway to see the stock position of Fetl on CRUS? If they are short, which I think they are, can we sue/complain to SEC due to stock manipulation?
