that would not be their first decision that had both negative health and cost benefits. Look at nuclear. Germany is closing perfectly good and relatively new reactors. They just want the votes.

There are some exceptions. Options that are based on indexes, such as the Standard & Poor's 500 and Dow Jones industrial average trade until 4:15 ET, he says.

And options on futures tied to the CBOE volatility index, or VIX, trade from 8 a.m. ET to 4:15 p.m. ET. The VIX is an index that rises and falls along with investors' anxiety about markets.

  • BlackBerry: Is A Major Short Squeeze Coming? [View article]
I would buy the stock, sell the 14$ call option and buy the 12$ put option, or something like that. It has a more established reward/loss IMHO.

Because of the implied volatility, both the call and put options are now very expensive. So, you can sell one to buy the insurance. Specially when you don't plan to keep it if the squeeze happens.

  • Salesforce (CRM) files a 14A asking investors to approve a 4:1 stock split at the company's March 20 shareholder meeting. Shares +0.6% AH after closing near their all-time high. "The Board ... believes the considerable price appreciation has made our common stock less affordable and, therefore, attractive to fewer investors," Salesforce declares, apparently with a straight face. [View news story]
Guys, be careful! Don't go short of these class of stocks without a protection, i.e., an out of money call. 12% of float is short, so if any 'positive' news comes up, you may have another netflix on your hand!

  • Facebook (FB) shares are -1.05% premarket ahead of today's expiry on a lock-up of another 800M shares, the third and biggest expiration since the social network's IPO. Analysts are divided over the impact that the end of lock-up will have: the two previous expirations caused a sharp decline in Facebook's stock price, although sentiment on Wall Street has since improved following the company's Q3 earnings report. [View news story]
    It is now +10%. Why?

  • Hewlett-Packard Is Likely To Miss Estimates [View article]
Paulo, in the past few weeks, I was buying puts in HPQ. However, it kept going and going and going. Finally, I folded three days ago. Naturally, after that it just crashed. I am now just cursing myself. What do you think Paulo about shorting at current price 21$? Maybe it is too late.

  • Nvidia: Why An Intel-Based Sell-Off Makes No Sense [View article]
AMD is reporting on Tuesday. From there, I think we can tell how big the discrete graphic market was and how much market share NVDA has gained or lost. Ashraf, can you then write an analysis based on AMD report about your guess about NVDA?

  • Market recap: Stocks gave back gains to finish flat, as investors reassessed the implications of the Fed's new asset purchases and its pledge to keep interest rates low as long as unemployment remains above 6.5%. After a quick pop, the news seemed to remind everyone just how weak the U.S. economy is. Crude oil gained 1.1%; 10-year Treasurys yields rose to 1.7% as Bernanke finished his talk. [View news story]

  • Netflix (NFLX +13.2%) continues to drive higher fueled by renewed rumors Microsoft is in the hunt for the company. A quick exit now and an investor is back to where they were before the company's Q3 earnings bomb (I, II, III). [View news story]
The volume on Friday was 14,776,199! It is much much less than the volume of in the money expiring weekly options.

My gut feeling is that it was a short squeeze because some short sellers were scared about a merger deal and ran out to the door. Only people with insider information + God would know that such a deal is really in the making.

  • Intel Dividend Yield Levels: Could The Stock Yield 4.5%? [View article]
I don't know much about INTC to give an opinion about that. BUT, buy it if you think they will grow, sell if not. You can lose much more if the stock tanks, dividends for tech stocks are not safe.

  • 2 Takes From Arch Coal's Earnings [View article]
Paulo, I am curious about your call buying. Do you buy out of money calls in these kind of trades or at the money? To me, March at 4.5 strike seems good.
