nrf may be a good stock to grab.... there is another country that is having elections though.. As a contrarian you would buy on bad news and the yield is very high giving you some money as you wait..

  • Guyana assures Exxon as Venezuela revives claim on land, oil discovery [View news story]
It's a real oddity that the retirement havens are all Spanish speaking places and Guyana is English speaking... They may need more than oil but there is potential there, the way it is now they probably miss the empire.

  • Brookfield Infrastructure Partners: World Class Infrastructure Assets And Undervalued With Solid Growth Prospects [View article]
I suspect that the nat gas storage business could sneak up on them and hit a hr at some point... I would suggest that part of the reason for the price action has to do with currency and part of it has to do with the income isn't entirely guaranteed... gasoline prices could go up an reduce the number of miles driven, rail demand could go down exc. exc.. I have done very well with bip though since I bought it in 09 or 10 (I would have to look) so I am not going to complain at all about it, I just wish I could still buy it with an 8% yield...

value investing involves buying hated companies and selling companies that are in favor that is why the energy storage business was bought and why the timber business was sold... I am not saying that is right or wrong just the style they are trying to use.

  • Prospect Capital And The Debt Rating [View article]
I believe that incentive fees to the manager go up with a buyback and if you are selling assets to something else where you are still getting the fees then it realy doesn't matter. My thinking is that there is to much capital chasing to few loans across the bdc's so a stock buyback would be the best use of capital, at least for some of it. Reputation is also important if they wish to grow into other areas of management, not to mention the large number of shares owned by management... So many people think it isn't going to happen is also a factor since you may be getting 20 to 1 and higher if they announce a buyback (through the options).... I don't know why anyone would short but overloading the upside where you would make more money on the buyback case would be something I would look at there also.

They have said they could do a buyback... This is a stock for speculation to be sure, I would even look at the options of this one. Anyone who says they know what is going to happen is either lying or has insider info... I suspect that it is possible that nav could go up (because of some of the money being used for a buyback) and the writer knows who is grabbing the shares cheap. I am long psec and I might buy shares instead of the spinoff.

really there are quite a few markets they do not cover... Vietnam for instance but it probably requires a merger and a way to set up those markets as foreign accounts. They are however one of the best in the us market.

  • Has Prospect Capital Hit Rock Bottom? [View article]
30% nav is very cheap, I suspect some of the buyers are saving up money for the spinoffs, This bdc is also somewhat of a conglomerate so their could be a discount. I disagree with the statement about why the distribution was cut. The cut was because origination fee's went down when the price went down. It will not effect the business now when the price is cheap and that origination fee did not have any chance of going on forever without hyper inflation.

You sold way below the 12 month high... because I look at this thing almost every day for a year and a half I would say you sold it at what it would go for if they had a permanent ceo (my guess on the price anyway)

I am not defending them but I will mention that it is common for management companies to run adds.. With the spinoffs they need to get some interest for the product I suppose... They could be selling shares at nav when they do the spinoffs because it has happened before and it will happen again. They probably shouldn't trade at a 30% discount unless they are considered distressed in some way, I would think 10%=15% discount for clo max, 8% for internet credit and I am not sure what happens with the real estate but it's a good market for the owners (share price effected by rate fears probably at first)

  • Air Products & Chemicals, Inc. Raised Its Dividend 5% - Now What? [View article]
I sort of want a source for the first statement about blue chips (seems like I get a large amount of them in the first quarter although this is good news).... I like it as part of my portfolio and plan to keep it a very very long time so I am not concerned about the valuation so much.
