  • 6 Reasons To Short Silver, 3 Ways To Short And 2 Reasons Gold Is Better [View article]
It doesn't look like silver got that much cheaper (1 oz rounds) even with a lower silver price.. I can't tell if there is a shortage of blanks or not.

  • Both Crestwood Companies' Dividends Are Not Sustainable [View article]
Pretty much everything in pipelines is bad because with lower volumes you get lower prices... I found the salt buisness intresting. I would think maybe the bonds on some of these pipelines could be intresting.

  • Prospect Capital: Reconciling Different Points Of View [View article]
I was looking at closed in funds and found some that were somewhat similar traded at 8% discount to nav. I am sure they sold at nav though.

  • China's Gold Reserves: A Strong Dose Of Reality [View article]
I could see deflation in china... declining population therefore less jobs are needed, real estate prices collapse, maybe a desire to keep fuel prices down exc.. at some point they do not need as many jobs and they want their people to have more stuff... I see a possibility of a strong currency vs the us regardless of whether it is backed by gold or not. To me south asia looks more interesting.

  • Obtain 10% Dividend Yield From DirectCash Payments [View article]
sometimes you need cash for quickness, that said that is the only reason to carry cash. You can get cash by going to your bank or writing a check for over here in the u.s. so paying a fee to use an atm machine is something I do not understand.

I would think I would hold some cash for the rights issues of psec... That said wp carey is another name that is good in real estate. psec itself looks really interesting this far under book value.

  • How Much Can YieldCo Dividends Grow? [View article]
Northland is somewhat a yieldco except it doesn't pay a huge fee to anyone and is borrowing money to build new projects. There is some risk to this one in the European contracts but it will raise the dividend before there are any problems with the contract.

  • Prospect Capital Management And The Brilliant Spin-Off [View article]
I don't think I would except an explanation of it until it is spelled out to me.. It could be above/below nav exc... rights offering means that you have the right to buy shares and most likely is to the advantage of the person who buys more. Maybe you can sell your rights for cash also.

  • National Bank Of Greece, Lights Out? [View article]
It is called paying with cash.... IT is not all that unusual that is just an assumption that you have posted that some people have to do (60% of homes are bought w/debt)

  • Asciano Has Been Approached By Brookfield Infrastructure Partners - And I Missed Out On It [View article]
It's good to mention there is a dividend and that bip is also buying nka for cash also (in u.s. dollars), nka has a shopping around period that could give you more upside (I suspect not though)...

  • Is Prospect Capital Going To Start Buying Back Stock? [View article]
I don't see any problem with a stock buyback... I don't think they would do it with money from the clo rights offer because it yields more that the stock but the other 2 spinnoffs would be perfect since hopefully the leverage is with the spinoff and the cash can be used entirely for the buyback lifting the nav and the amount of money they would distribute per share.. They could even sell puts to do the buyback.

nrf may be a good stock to grab.... there is another country that is having elections though.. As a contrarian you would buy on bad news and the yield is very high giving you some money as you wait..

  • Guyana assures Exxon as Venezuela revives claim on land, oil discovery [View news story]
It's a real oddity that the retirement havens are all Spanish speaking places and Guyana is English speaking... They may need more than oil but there is potential there, the way it is now they probably miss the empire.

  • Brookfield Infrastructure Partners: World Class Infrastructure Assets And Undervalued With Solid Growth Prospects [View article]
I suspect that the nat gas storage business could sneak up on them and hit a hr at some point... I would suggest that part of the reason for the price action has to do with currency and part of it has to do with the income isn't entirely guaranteed... gasoline prices could go up an reduce the number of miles driven, rail demand could go down exc. exc.. I have done very well with bip though since I bought it in 09 or 10 (I would have to look) so I am not going to complain at all about it, I just wish I could still buy it with an 8% yield...

value investing involves buying hated companies and selling companies that are in favor that is why the energy storage business was bought and why the timber business was sold... I am not saying that is right or wrong just the style they are trying to use.
