  • An Interview With Grier Eliasek, President And COO Of Prospect Capital [View article]
I would not think it is called a spinoff if it isn't spun off to the shareholders. That would just be shares sold in a unit.. the spinoff thing should have an effect on the options market.

part of this has to do with the degree of risk in an account. at 1% of an account a 10% drop is somewhere near .1%. In some cases you need to ask how wrong do I have to be to loose money, I would suspect on some of these securities you have to be very wrong down into the $5 for the derivatives if you have a buy and hold position and after a call you have the short interest payment and calls. I don't think I would add more at this price though.

  • Money Dries Up For Oil And Gas, Layoffs Spread, Write-Offs Start [View article]
It looks ugly wish I knew which bonds to grab. glad I got rid of crc and the dividend is going to go up again next year for oxy (most likely while I annoy people who drive and say the price goes up every year also :) )

  • Bakken producers need $55 oil to keep production steady, regulator says [View news story]
Some people are willing to pay more than market price for oil. It is called bio-diesel mandates and they are going up in a lot of countries.. carl icon is saying depletion of production is 4% a year and if a country like Venezuela starts to burn no one will miss them. solution is mentioned often in oil company talk but no one says what a final solution will do to some of these countries.. I think growing food is considered capitalist in Venezuela.

  • Bakken producers need $55 oil to keep production steady, regulator says [View news story]
That could happen anyway with methanol production. The oil is still in the ground it isn't going anywhere it is just the jobs that have gone for now.

  • Green Plains Inc. Shares Can Double Despite Cheap Oil [View article]
If you have subsidies then it brings on more advanced non-corn ethonal. There may be a sort of dishonesty about it being a farm subsidy. I work for a meat packer and do research on bio-diesel and I see that animal fat is cheaper than non-editable corn oil and both are cheaper than soybeans when I look at regi`.

  • Biofuel RINs Return With A Vengeance [View article]
It's all old tek... methonex has the carbon/water/electricity to methanol thing going.. I almost wonder what would happen if you did a solar pool to heat up the water ahead of time. No subsidies for that at all just rins so its ethanol and fake diesel and bio-diesel.

  • The World's Largest Net Lease REIT Is Ripe For A Takeover [View article]
I don't know why I would want to sell all of it but it does make sense to make it have less red darden properties and cole may have a reputation problem that would make it worth more somewhere else. I would see them as wanting to get the most for the shareholders. (There are takeover people who could buy the whole company maybe)

  • Europe Cannot Catch A Break And Is Therefore Headed For A Break (Up) [View article]
climate change is another word for waste.. You can try to legislate a reduction of the waste but befour the tek is ready it will do no good. You can try to vote to keep pumping more carbon in the air also. I would even believe that voting republican may not be enough to keep carbon pollution rates from going down when the tek is ready here in the states also.. Europe is not agreeing to limit carbon by itself that is misleading (not that it is great economically until the tek comes along)

  • Prospect Capital Or Medley Capital? [View article]
I am long psec... I am interested in knowing more about the clo's and what is going to happen if and when they get spun off. I think they have other assets like real estate that should go up in value over time unless we go into deflation. I see a lot of fixed rate debt and realize that they will make new loans at higher rates when rates do go up. I also realize that the spinnoff may have different leverage rules and I much prefer selling 5% debt to selling 12% shares even if it is convertible at higher prices into shares again. I always enjoy reading even if I think all the potential possibilities I have haven't been addressed yet.

  • Rebuttal: Ditching The 401k Is A Favor To The Taxman, But It Ruins Your Returns [View article]
I am at the 15% rate... One of my concerns that I was going to pass into other rates and have the dividends on my non-deferred dividends and capital gains taxed when I took the money out. Since my taxable dividend and capital gain income is going up I felt that going up to the matching about was beneficial (by reducing my income I reduce the tax rate on my dividends and cap gains also) although I am concerned about the possibility of a higher tax rate.. Doing the 401k with a roth ira and a taxable account (that is currently below the taxable amount) is how I am working those angles right now.
