  • U.S. Geothermal, Inc. - All Quiet On The Geothermal Front [View article]
I think it Is o.k. for them to do solar as part of their geo-thermal plants... they may be able to sell the solar plants for a profit like ormat did. I do see progress it is in terms of the slow payoff of the loan they have. Not exciting but it reduces the amount of debt over time..

  • Prospect Capital's (PSEC) CEO John Francis Barry on Q3 2015 Results - Earnings Call Transcript [View article]
I have my doubts that you are going to oust the management team but there are many assets managers out there I own shares of :) .... Something like that could be hugely profitable for me.

  • NorthStar Asset Management misses by $0.14, misses on revenue [View news story]
It is the estimate that is questionable because what would you base it on.... I saw one part of the conference call that made me feel good about it.

"we're looking for the best investments and that means we have to wait a quarter or two to get capital deployed but we do it better, we think that's a long term recipe for success rather than sort of indiscriminately putting out capital"

In theory nrf could double in price if it had the same reputation (or better) than Brookfield and it's not a problem if they wait a little bit to charge the management fee.

  • Green Dividend Yield Portfolio [View article]
You are missing a lot of companies because you do not have anything in Canada. It is hard to get yield on anything any more other than that (and some real estate companies) so there is probably a great deal of risk in the market.

  • Canadian energy stocks hammered after "devastating" Alberta election [View news story]
I have heard rick rule talk about the white people in Edmonton who stold all his money so I suspect that is one reason for the selloff is fear of profitability after the election. hydro is most likely less expensive than coal in the long run if they have spots for it (but more expensive up front). I invest in Nova Scotia (where the new democrats are) where I hear the communists complain that alt energy costs to much (the argument benefits diesel demand in prince Edwards Island and would take supply off the u.s. market)

  • REITs: Look Out Below? [View article]
I like csg because I can get a discount with the options and if I like I can sell a call if I purchase shares (athough I haven't been)... There seems to be speculation that it is going to merge though so the near $7.50 gravy train maybe over or the other thing is that we finally get new management. It is trading below what it was trading for before the dividend increase and it could be seasonal (after the div hike) because of the expectation of a new dividend increase next year could send the price up again later this year.

  • Northstar stocks pulled from Deutsche's short-term buy list [View news story]
The company report says that nsam grew it's assets under management 20% in 6 months. They can grow quicker than Brookfield asset management can to be sure. I purchased both, because the yield and the company reminds me of Brookfield in 08.

  • Recent Trade: Sold 2 Oil Majors And Bought W.P. Carey [View article]
Oil is somewhat like mining where it is a depleting asset. I do alt energy to make large amounts of money and I do but I am only investing in the electric space where I know my market. northland in Canada may be a good one for you because they have a high yield that could go higher before the dividend gets increased (after they finish construction of an offshore windpark). I recently did the same (selling oil but for a different reason) thing for my portfolio with wpc and a very large chunk of nrf and nsam (the management company).

  • Left With Too Little, When Averaging Down Fails [View article]
They are selling their reserves with what to replace them? at what price?... they have a resource that is non-renewable for the most part (refineries might be powered by renewables in the future who knows but reserves are another question). You can use electricity as a derivative of nat gas and there are other ways around that were depletion is removed.

  • Tesla's Battery: No Thanks [View article]
I could see where it is used out in the country(combing with a wind turbine, solar exc.), all those poles and wires are expensive. Over the long term I don't think lithium is what is going to be in batteries for electricity. cars maybe, electricity will go to something that lasts longer.

  • Power REIT: Not The Way I'd Want To Invest In Renewable Power [View article]
to be fair if the rent goes up 1% but it is a leveraged asset the increase is higher (since the interest expense does not increase). You can find the same 1% escalator on alot of geo-thermal contracts but even there at some point the lease expires and you are probably competing with nat gas. I don't particularly see any reason for them to focus on alt-energy though I think they should go where the money is.
