  • The Future Of Electricity In America - Clean Power [View article]
I will disagree that wind and solar do not compete with nat gas, they cannot completely replace it yet though.. There was something in the article that was only partially factual. that car batteries could in the future replace regulator plants but most likely if a battery replaces them it is something like liquid metal and not a car lithium battery. I could put a tube on my mobile home and put hydro in it for when I empty the bathtub so there are a lot of different places we have power that could be explored (many people use this so called greywater and if you are in a mobile home you have the height to do it.

  • Why Coffee May Start Percolating Again Soon [View article]
I can't seem to find a plantation company for the coffee industry. It seems like there should be some of those available. I don't really care about the retail part of it.

  • Air Products And Chemicals: As Transformation Continues, An Insider Makes Multi-Million Dollar Purchase [View article]
I was listening to a alter nrg conference call and it appears they are building some gassifier systems for trash incineration in Europe so it appears that they have something to sell or increase their earnings with in the future (or spin off)

  • The Blackstone Group L.P.: Why This 8% Yielder Belongs In Your Income Portfolio [View article]
I would think you would want to be counter-cyclical... invest when things have been bad for awhile. I am a long term holder of kkr but I am not adding to that position right now.

  • Aluminum catching on in Detroit [View news story]
I suspect it does corrode over time. I am thinking if they sell less trucks it is because oil company workers are unemployed and farmers are somewhat uncertain about the bio-fuel stuff.

  • Commodities Stink - But Consider Crude [View article]
gold is always good as insurance. Politics sorta control the oil market and tek is more against oil than gold. (If tek hits something it's probably nat gas first in the electricity business). I predict that tek will be slow moving though.

  • How To Create A Portfolio Today With Dividend Yield Of 4.5% And Dividend Growth Of 4.75% [View article]
You can get a good yield with less telephone and more real estate. I have a lot of Singapore real estate (The international ones mostly) bip (as was mentioned) nrf (looks like bip did befour it went up a few 100 percent) exc. The oil could get a dividend cut, I would try something that is priced on oil or nat gas. maybe cva (priced on nat gas, trash tipping fee's and metal prices). They should go up when nat gas goes up. I am not realy looking for yield so much but when I do my research I come up with it quite often so I have a lot of lower yielding stocks that grow their dividend quick along with some of the higher yielding stuff. The Canadian banks look interesting (along with the aussie ones).

  • The Tale Of 2 Cheaply Valued Net Lease REITs [View article]
I like csg when bought with the $7.50 put options. I don't think that will last long (and it may be unlikely that I buy more that way), the price may be a function of the ceo not being there, without that uncertainty it is possible the price goes up a little bit and I can just collect the dividends in the meantime.

  • What Prospect Capital Corporation's Q1 Activity Means For Shareholders [View article]
I was doing some simple research on clo + closed end funds and I get a group of so called loan participation funds that can trade at a discount of up to 7%. That is clearly much better than psec is trading at. If they would use the money for a stock buyback or sell puts like call did so they can do a stock buyback or keep the money I could see this as a good thing. Since it is being sold to the current shareholders the discount should not matter. They do that overseas excluding us investers on shares that are already trading all the time. It's a shame the sec doesn't fix that to protect u.s. shareholders from the practice (I.E. allow u.s. shareholder to purchased rights issues of stocks that they are allowed to trade in foreign markets).

  • What Prospect Capital Corporation's Q1 Activity Means For Shareholders [View article]
I just listened to the conference call and I would have been a lot more excited with a spinnoff with a rights offering to expand it so that I can average my shares down and get the upside.

  • What Prospect Capital Corporation's Q1 Activity Means For Shareholders [View article]
I am looking forward to the options selling on the dollar instead of the $2.50 like they are now. I haven't heard about a rights offering yet and I am not against it under some circumstances and the concept of a spinnoff is something I support. I think a merger with the management company (or a public offering of the management company) might get rid of a lot of discontent.

The hole point of a rights offering is that the shareholders get any special deal that is available.. I may do the rights offering plus extra shares if that is what is offered.

The company also gets a fee when they lend the money out.. that may be returned to the shareholders over time even if it was a bad idea in the first place

They have to do a spinoff or they will exceed the targets set by the feds... A rights offer is extra.. I haven't heard anything about a rights offer yet except in the comment section.

  • Busting The Myth Of Grid Parity: The Residential Solar PPA/Lease Death Spiral [View article]
Read the part again about the fixed costs. billing is a fixed cost the cost of the wire is fixed, customer service is a fixed cost. what the article doesn't go into is that there are a lot of invester that believe nat gas prices will go up because oil prices are down and that will increase the cost of electricity.
