  • Facebook beats by $0.02, misses on revenue [View news story]
It may seem like that to you, b, but whenever I've thought to try and get in touch with people I knew in the past, such as my fellow students, and searched for them on FB, I've never found them, not a single one! That would seem to indicate that there are hundreds who are not interested in it, for every person like me. Unless this is a complete freak result, then the phrase "every person like me" applies to all those hundreds, so if any of them have had a similar experience, we are already looking at a sizeable proportion of the population who will never do much more than glance at FB!

I'm not claiming that "people who like FB" aren't in the majority, but it looks to me like that majority isn't as big as you like to think.

  • A Tale Of 2 Banks: Pondering Wells Fargo And Bank Of America [View article]
The way things are going, jack, the likes of McDonald's won't be employing people soon, as it can all be done better by robots, and at less cost. So what are ex burger flippers supposed to do for a living? In the meantime, the World will keep on getting richer, and Fortune 500 execs will carry on awarding themselves an ever bigger portion of their record profits, and nobody in government, as far as I can tell, is even thinking of ways of putting a stick in the spokes of this destructive merry-go-round!

They'd better get around to it soon, as we are in the classic approach to the next collapse of civilisation (but they never want to learn from the lessons of history, do they?)...

Ah yes, Ray, relatively speaking, it's doing well, but that, I'm afraid, doesn't reassure me; the man said that QE doesn't work in theory but does in practice, but what we are seeing is that, actually, it doesn't work in practice, either! It just kicks the can down the road, and into someone else's back yard, and then it comes around again...

Yes, that's where the concern is; hard to know which figures to believe, where the economy is concerned, and none of them are particularly encouraging...

I second that; unusually informative (though I'm not so bullish about the economy...)!

  • Facebook reportedly shows interest in Nokia maps unit, launches dialer app (updated) [View news story]
Hah; that would be a first, AH! As far as being tracked is concerned (not something I'd normally be bothered about, and you can always get out of it if you need to) it's worth remembering that it is not an active situation, beyond the electronic level, as no one is going to spend that much manpower on Joe Public. It's like the way the NSA can listen in on your phone calls, but, unless you've done something to draw attention to yourself, it's not likely to ever happen.

Off topic:I'd like to apologize for any future lack of response on my part, but SA have once again denied me access to the comment section on most articles (no, I've no idea why...).

  • BofA reportedly settles forex class action suit [View news story]
It so happens, TS, selling options is not something I've really looked at, as yet (too many ideas to try out, already) but I'm aware that this is where most of the money is made. I'm not comfortable with stuff I don't fully understand, and I've no time for it at present, but maybe someday I'll come up with a wheeze that'll surprise you; I fully expect you to be gob-smacked by some of the stuff I'm working on now...

  • Bank Of America - High Margin Of Safety, High Return Potential [View article]
There was, back in the fifties and sixties, when CEOs typically paid themselves about 5 times what a production worker got (which was an acceptable differential back then, so why not now?) and top earners were taxed at 98% on a part of their salaries, and most people who wanted to work, were able to do so. Whatever it takes to make an economy really work, 200:1 salary differentials, and low tax rates for all, are not a part of it...

Whatever, 34% going to executives, whilst non-managers get less than 0.005 of those salaries, is way too high. They are hired hands, not owners, and it continuously amazes me that the general populace have been brainwashed into accepting such excessive salaries! This is the fall of the Roman Empire, all over again, but people continue to ignore the lessons of history...
