We retired early and travel 9 months out of the year. This bio will just address our investment philosophy.
First we work as a team so that when one of us passes on, the other is not at a total loss. We focus on cash flow and do not allow market volatility fear to govern our decisions.
To us, retirement cash flow support consists of two primary parts: (1) Investing and (2) Personal Spending.
Regarding investing, we are primarily dividend investors. We use dividends to both: (a) fund our discretionary life style and (b) to automatically reinvest. We keep 2-3 years of cash flow needs liquid for a rainy day and for an emergency fund. Less than 20% of our portfolio is used for trading and to buy
& hold growth stocks.
In regards to spending, we have no debt and have a low cost basic life style and if we needed to, we could survive on our Social Security. By far our discretionary spending is much larger than our basic living needs.
