  • Tesla's 'Beat' Is No Beat If You Were Paying Attention - $500 Per Share Path Still Intact [View article]
To use GAAP accounting in case of Tesla is a plain stupidity.

GAAP assumes that every car Tesla leased would be returned and Tesla would not be able to sell those cars even for the price of scrap metal. But that is insane assumption.

Non-GAAP numbers are much closer to reality.

Actually zinc air, sodium ion and lithium sulfur batteries were commercialized in 2013... This chemistries have bigger potential compared to li-ion. But all of them are still immature technologies.

If Tesla start to build gigafactory next year - Tesla might be forced to build it around battery technology that would be outdated in no time. Remember, we are talking about factory that have got bigger capacity then all current li-ion factories in the world...

  • A Tesla Bull Suggests Hedging Long Positions Going Into Earnings [View article]
In California alone Tesla sales were 973 in December. Outselling 946 cars Porsche sold.

While for the whole year Porsche still ended up ahead of Tesla in California, the Dec sales show strong momentum experienced by Tesla at the moment. And do not forget, Porsche not only offering Panamera, direct competitor for Model S, but also SUV and sport cars...

Bottom would be ZERO. 0. Shares not worth anything.

AXPW are getting closer and closer to zero, as more and more investors realize that Axion will never turn in profits and have no chance of being sold as a business.

  • Don't Blame Tesla For An Overzealous Market Or Vice Versa [View article]
Average gross margins on each Tesla was 21% last quarter. Those expected to grow to 25%+ in this quarter. And keep growing after that.

Tesla is profitable for 4 consecutive quarters already.

  • Tesla's Path To A Conservative $500 Per Share [View article]
    Your math is screwed:)

Automotive sales - $551,951, minus $51,000 ZEV (and minus whatever development revenue).

Gross profits - $120,896, minus $51,000 ZEV (and minus stock based compensation, optional).

Divide one on another - you will get GM excluding ZEV (but INCLUDING all other regulatory credits). Should be around 13.9% or something.

Guidance for Q4'13 is 25% without ZEV (but still including other credits, check earning call transcript etc.)

If you want to go GAAP accounting for when to recognize what, then you could claim all sort of thing, like for example that Tesla revenue dropped 28% in Q2 compared to Q1;) etc.

  • Tesla's Path To A Conservative $500 Per Share [View article]
Automotive gross margins excluding ZEV were negative in Q4'12.

Automotive gross margins excluding ZEV were ~5% in Q1'13.

Automotive gross margins excluding ZEV were almost 14% in Q2'13.

So yes, Tesla was(probably still is) on track to 25% GM in Q4'13. They need to get to ~20% GM in Q3'13.

More important - cars returned due to lease expiration would not be sent to scrap yard. They would be sold as CPO cars - providing additional profits for Tesla. And Tesla is very active on CPO Roadster market. And they are making money buying Roadsters back from the owners and selling them as CPO cars...

It is a matter of time till Tesla will achieve one million units per year sale rate. We already have good visibility into 60k-75k units annualized production rate by the end of 2014. Then come X. Then Gen3.

  • 5 Clues Tesla Will Shock The Street [View article]
TSLA is not about how few million bucks were made last quarter, but about growth in 3-4 years. And proving that gross margins are big also is an important point.

If TM keep increasing number of cars made and get closer to 25% gross profits - TSLA will be trading higher and higher.

  • Analyzing The Logic Of Tesla Bears [View article]
At $400+ TSLA definitely worth shorting. $300+ could be a fair price. For now TSLA is a buy, but upside potential is not that huge, it would probably take years to get to $300+ level.

  • Is The Tesla Model S Green? [View article]
This guy compares Tesla Model S to Honda Civic!!! Would you expect his comparison to be fair?

Model S competes against Porsche Panamera, Audi S6, BMW M5, Aston Martin Rapide...

I quite sure author could have come up with even more impressive numbers if he had compared Porsche Panamera/BMW M5 to Civic... If his agenda would have been to rant about luxury sedans from BMW/Porsche.... But nope, his agenda pointed against Tesla, not Audi etc..
