  • Google Vs. Facebook: Who Wins, Who Loses?  [View article]
Wow these are some very fundamental errors you're committing here.

    1) Share count is meaningless by itself.

    2) Past performance is not indicative of future performance.

    3) If you start slinging names the moment someone has doubts about your favorite little stock, you're probably making emotional decisions and should reevaluate your fanaticism.

  • Microsoft's Xbox One Is Failing  [View article]
They shouldn't approach this as "let's do what's best for investors in the short run". They should just do what's best for Microsoft in the long run. The investors will reap the rewards in the end anyway.

Funny how you included the Surface 2 and Xbox One under the "proven track record of fails" when the Surface 2 won't be released for another week and the Xbox One for another month. Please share your crystal ball with us, or better yet, do us a favor and short MSFT.

  • "Our number one thing is supplying products to consumers," says Steve Ballmer (MSFT) in his latest interview. To justify his stance, Ballmer notes 65% of PC sales and 75% of Office usage involves consumers. BI's Jay Yarow doesn't like what he's hearing, given the pace at which consumer PC sales are being cannibalized. One could also point out Windows/Office ASPs are higher for enterprises, and that Microsoft's Server & Tools unit is enterprise-focused. Asked whether he's pleased with Surface sales, Ballmer would only say he's "super-glad [Microsoft] did Surface."  [View news story]

  • Microsoft And The Infinite Monkey Theorem Of R&D Spending  [View article]
We have to keep in mind that Microsoft R&D works on multiple horizons concurrently. Who knows what the true distribution of funding really is. The lack of innovation in these past horizons doesn't necessary imply that funding is being misused, it's is quite possible that they are investing a disproportionate amount on further horizons, say 2018, rather than 2013.

Roughly but keep in mind that the ad business usually shines brighter in Q4 so the 4x heuristic is likely an optimistic approximation in this case.

  • Nokia (NOK +4.7%) has cracked the $4 barrier today. Possibly helping is a Bloomberg report that HTC has shelved plans for a large-screen Windows Phone due to the fact WP8 doesn't currently support 1080p displays. HTC recently launched the Droid DNA, an Android phone with a 5" 1080p display.  [View news story]
Yup, phones nowadays are way too heavy with those large fancy screens, big batteries, and high powered cameras.

Oh that's right, screw deadly diseases. Who the hell needs a cure for malaria anyway (other than the hundreds of thousands of people it kills every year). His money will be better spent on us successful people, and hey just maybe some of those profits will also trickle down to the poor. It's a win-win!

Have you not seen Windows 8? Or the recent windows phone revamp? I would argue that these changes are more drastic and innovative than adding a new row of icons while increasing the screen size.
