Nadella sounds like a man who is not interested in selling off "under performing" units. He sounds all in on the One Microsoft strategy.

Only real investors see that not people wanting to raid cash reserves for short term gains. Really backwards thinking.

  • The Microsoft/Nokia Phased Merger Theory: Not As Effective As It Might Seem [View article]
Live tiles are very beautiful and easy to move where I like and make the size I like. WP is a lot like Facebook when it came on the scene and usurped MySpace. Once a few deficiencies in features and first party apps are solved then MSFT will see the growth.

  • The Microsoft/Nokia Phased Merger Theory: Not As Effective As It Might Seem [View article]
When I switched to WP7 and was introduced to Metro I realized a few things. I realized I didn't miss crappy gradients, animated backgrounds, drop shadows, a huge mess of icons, unnecessary animations between tasks, laggy performance of the os, having to load ROMS which would cripple my phone and that having a simple and efficient OS was the way to go. My UX is much better with WP than any other phone I've tried. I also bought into NOK around $1.80 so this last year has been amazing. Long NOK, MSFT.

  • Nokia (NOK +9.3%) soars after the chairman of Huawei's consumer business group says his company would be open to buying Nokia in an off-hand remark. Any offer from Huawei would face intense EU scrutiny, given long-standing worries about the company's Chinese government/military ties. Is this a repeat of BlackBerry/Lenovo[View news story]
Ballmer and co. will never let this happen. MSFT has too much invested and too much to lose to let Huawei try and scoop up Nokia like that. Plus I'm sure MSFT has first dibs on Nokia baked into their agreement.

  • Why Windows 8.1 Is Irrelevant And It's Time For Investors To Look Toward Windows 9 [View article]
As long time Windows user who is quite "savvy" as you put it, I find Metro to be quite amazing on all hardware types. My workflow hasn't slowed down one bit and I switch between Aero and Metro as needed constantly. As the preview of 8.1 has shown Metro is only going further integrated into the OS as Aero slowly goes away. I suggest you keep your copy of XP to cuddle up to because the world is moving forward without you.

Don't expect Metro to go away with Windows 9, like the ribbon its part of the UI now.

  • Microsoft Is Steadily Advancing Towards The Holy Grail Of Cloud Computing [View article]
I've been predicting this convergence ever since MSFT came out from under DoJ watch. That single even allowed MSFT to restart the plan they had under WinXP. The three screens dream is upon us.

  • Who Will End Up Staying With The Windows Phone? [View article]
The other WP8 vendors are the victim of their own lack of effort. Consumers who wants a Windows Phone only see a value proposition with Nokia, they have great devices, exclusive software and fantastic support. Nokia is to Windows Phone as Samsung is to Android. If HTC, Samsung and Co. made more of an effort they too would see millions of WP8 devices.
