  • TransAct Technologies: After A Sell-Off, Investors Have A Great Opportunity To Own This Debt-Free 4% Yielder  [View article]
Thanks for bringing this under-followed company to our attention. What is your valuation for the company?

  • Geospace: Just Wishing Doesn't Make It So  [View article]
Great article, well-researched and written! Totally agree on the lack of visibility. Yet, why would management continue with the campus expansion if they were not somewhat confident (i.e. better than a coin toss) that sales would materialize? It is enough of a reason to hold for now, at least for me.

  • An End To Our Relationship With Yahoo, A New Era For Equity Research  [View article]
Great decision to separate from Yahoo. I have stopped reading Yahoo Finance few years ago after it stopped evolving as a news platform for serious investors and started leaning towards Huffington post headline propaganda. SA is the site I go to for my daily financial news and research. Keep improving it!!!

  • IBM Transformation Continues, Expect The Shares To Trade To $250 By Year-End  [View article]
Nor would there be IBM then, as they would go under due to the heavy debt load. The buybacks are funded not just by FCF, but primarily by debt - an increase in debt of about $14 billion over 5 years. The company has also reduced cash, short & long-term investments by further $8 billion.

  • IBM Transformation Continues, Expect The Shares To Trade To $250 By Year-End  [View article]
Why would anyone apply a high multiple to a company with declining/flat revenues? IBM issued a lot of debt, bought plenty of shares, which helps drive EPS up. But the stock has run up in concert, so without now a sales catalyst, I don't see anything sustaining the upwards momentum. I see the stock range-bound, with higher probability for a decline. Just my opinion.

  • This Tech Stock's Pullback Is A Solid Buying Opportunity  [View article]
SWIR was a fantastic stock late 2012. Since then it has tripled. Your comment of a 20% pullback is from an all-time high. In addition, operating profit has been negative for a while. Your reference for a $0.70 EPS is totally off.

This is a pretty bad article. Surprised to see it has passed editorial scrutiny at SA.

Rudester, I also voted against the comp package and will vote to oust the current directors in the next proxy. The shelf offering was shocking and disgusting. Fully supportive of Mercato's efforts to implement changes at the company.

  • IBM: Worth $260 Per Share  [View article]
I am not convinced IBM's price has another leg of growth. In 2000 - height of the tech boom - IBM was trading in the $110 range. It spent the next 10 years oscillating around that level. It finally took off in H2 2010. So, at $200 per share, the stock is in unchartered waters. And all in a time when IBM is transitioning further from a technology company into a consulting company. Remember Sears? Kmart? Dominant companies once, with 100k+ of employees ...

  • Washington State's Minimum Wage Experience  [View article]
There is an apples to oranges comparison in the article: it tries to prove economic theory is wrong and that labor is not a commodity by looking at a one-year chart of changes in overall unemployment rate. Yet this is completely missing the point. Economic theory will argue that increase in the cost of 'particular' labor will lead to decrease in employment of that particular labor pool. For example, fast food chains will put automated kiosks and use less employees. This, of course, is not going to happen overnight, but within a 10-year period the decrease in employment (I am comfortable betting on that) in Washington state will go down due to the increase in the minimum wage. And that is really bad news to high school students trying to earn a few bucks on the side and developing some useful work habits. It is equally bad to the uneducated work force - less jobs to go around - so it will likely see these folks on the unemployment rolls. It will also impact seniors, earning a few extra bucks on the side (my great-grandfather worked at Walmart until he was 84).

  • Apple buying Beats for $3B  [View news story]
"Second, Apple will sell the Beats brand, online and in many overseas markets. That will greatly expand the Beats name and bring it in revenue in a very short time of several billion dollars to Apple's bottom line."

Yeah, Beats brand is recognized the world over and it is just a matter of distributing in more countries. Sarcasm. The price is too high for an over-priced headphones and a streaming service only 100 k people are using.

Apple (like Intel) has a poor track record for realizing value out of its acquisitions. It is much better-known for its internal innovation.
