  • Apple: What Drives Upside From Here? [View article]
Really like this article - with sound stats to back up the analysis. I thought that the 5.4% of existing iPhone users considering the watch is very telling as well as the fact that Apple decided not to go all in with the watch. Very smart move.

  • Apple: Does The Party End In 2015? [View article]
I don't see that. The better alignment is for GOOG to acquire them and I don't see that happening in the near term either. The best path is for AAPL to acquire tech/personnel from smaller outfits and they have been doing some of that - earlier this year - and my spies tell me that effort is moving forward.

  • Apple: Does The Party End In 2015? [View article]
It was my understanding talking with my AAPL contacts and my independent research that the plan was to move away from GOOG and go with own or acquire tech or do acqui-hire. Thought there was a recent acqui-hire in that direction. Seems that's where the tide is moving...

    BTW, thanks for posting Alex.

  • Apple: Facing A Challenge From Google's Android [View article]
Thought this post by Forrester was interesting.

Definitely a marketing slant but an interesting insight into what is working for Xiaomi. The CEO is what China is touting the Steve Jobs of China, yes? Isn't Xiaomi another China company ripping off Apple, et al? I thought that was the reason that Apple was blowing them off. However, if Xiaomi plays with too much fire, Apple will burn them...

  • Apple ruled not guilty in iPod DRM suit [View news story]
Definitely a good win by AAPL, but wasn't it a bit frivolous by the plaintiffs? There just wasn't much meat to their case.

  • Let's talk $2 gas [View news story]
Many winners on the gas price decrease. Especially retailers. More disposable income on which to spend (although with the economy erratic, disposable income is more of an oxymoron these days...).

Thanks @azazello for your rudeness. I'm not surprised. Many commenters now on SA are rude. It used to be on SA that you could peruse the site, read the articles, comment and be civil about it, maybe even learn something new and gain some new friends in the process. Those days are gone...apparently. If you are so anti-Google for education, why don't you be a man, and do something about it, instead of being condescending, complaining and hiding behind your comments?

Devices, yes, but as we all know the software is the key. And to Azazello above - do your homework, GAFE is more than Google Docs.

Educators are a very smart lot, they'll use the apps that work in the classroom. GAFE is an educational ecosystem, which AAPL just does not have today.

  • Apple: Setback In Education Presents A Cloud Opportunity [View article]
The following Forbes article addresses the same thing:

"While Apple has been pumping iPads into schools, Google has gotten many of the same schools hooked on its free Google Apps for Education Suite."

The apps are the sweet spot. And based on my work in the education sector, it's clear educators aren't as concerned with the device than they are in accessing the app. And, if GOOG has the apps, it only makes sense that teachers/students access apps with GOOG devices. And GOOG lowers the prices to entice school districts.

Interestingly the article says "...its [GOOG] Chromebooks do not have the same baggage of association with fun and games as the iPad and hence may be better suited to getting kids to concentrate on the task at hand. It would be easy to make Google’s win in the classroom be purely about money. Free apps and cheap netbooks are certainly appealing to embattled school districts. Google’s emphasis on utility and data may be more in sync with the needs of students today than Apple’s promises of creative individuality and fun."

And the crux is does Common Core have more to do with this than we want to let on?

gismo - the problem that Apple has in education is while they may be providing the hardware, schools are using the iPads, Macs to access GOOG's software platform, GAFE, which is the go-to for most educators, and the education sweet spot. Apple clearly dropped the ball on software development. Additionally, I don't know where it stands at this very moment, but the debacle with Apple's messed up deal with LAUSD is getting worse, now with FBI/Federal Grand Jury involvement, it spells trouble for Apple, LAUSD and Pearson.

  • Apple's market cap tops $700B [View news story]
Tim "is not a product guy per se", as Steve famously said, or is charismatic, like Steve was, but is learning to tell good stories and is very methodical. So, I don't see him doing a "lousy job". In fact, he is leading a ship in good times, right now and great times, in the future. Tim and AAPL are exactly where they need to be.

Piptief is correct on user experience - that is the name of the game and what is really driving Apple. Apple can teach many organizations across many sectors a thing or 2 about user/customer experience. As for GOOG, I guess Larry Page didn't want to listen to Steve Jobs when he advised him to focus on few products. Google reminds me of the Apple of the late 80's/90's before Steve came back - where's the direction? Even some inside GOOG are scratching their heads...

  • Why I Hate Apple [View article]
Many. Every now and again, I re-visit to see if SA has changed somewhat, really hoping it has so that I can stay a little while another. It is my comic relief these days. Many have left, used to have some good conversations/learned some. When I jump back into SA for a bit and see people like Tech Enthusiast who validate my point, I exit. Such is life...
