  • Research In Motion (RIMM) buys start-up tinyHippos, the creator of Ripple, a cross-platform mobile application development and testing tool. Terms of the deal weren't disclosed. RIM is undoubtedly trying to leverage its growth in the tablet market, but given some of the PlayBook's flaws, this seems like a tiny step indeed. (also)  [View news story]
Rimm "please continue shorting our stock" This is not a direct quote, only my imagination of what management is truly thinking. They will have one more oppty to buy their shares back and make money before going out of business. They will be buying at much lower levels reducing sharecount to make numbers throughout 2011. Down goes Fraizer. These are the opportunities to make money in the market short. Take advantage of them when you can. This stock is a 15 dollar bill in 2012 after they sell a few playbooks and AAPL fully chokes them out.

Do not fear rallies in this name, sell them. There is no buyer for this company, until its a seriously distressed situation.

  • Weary homeowner James Altucher declares that he is “never going to buy a home ever again!” Such sentiment leads Barry Ritholtz to believe that we are closer to the end of down cycle than the beginning, but he also fundamentally disagrees with it. There are many reasons to buy a home, he says, so long as it's not as an investment; Tim Iacono concurs.  [View news story]
James wont, but the other 6.9Billion people in the world might take a crack at it since 99% of them dont know how to trade stocks.

  • Japan's nuclear crisis has amounted to a radiation increase equal to a prolonged dental x-ray, James Altucher says, and the media owes everyone an apology for overhyping it. Equally, the media should apologize for overhyping and then ignoring many recent events, including the Greek debt crisis, which is now worse than ever.  [View news story]
James seems like a decent guy on tv with a great trading perspective. That said he should be the only one apologizing. On his stylist's behalf... teee hee

  • AIG (AIG) offers the NY Fed $15.7B for Maiden Lane II - a company the Fed created to rescue some of AIG's mortgage-backed bonds and stem its cash bleed. If accepted, the deal would reduce the taxpayer price-tag for AIG's rescue to $72B, and the Fed would log a $1.5B profit on Maiden Lane II.  [View news story]
1.5BB divided by the # of taxpayers= the amount of rebate check sent in mail. Keep it simple.

  • Today’s boost in bank stocks may have less to do with Bank of America's (BAC) rosy remarks than with what Wall Street thinks about the proposed mortgage settlement (.pdf) pushed by state attorneys general. The bank rally "could reflect the belief that it is a giveaway/bailout, and lets the banks get off scott-free from their criminality," Barry Ritholtz writes.  [View news story]
wait, did anyone read this? the banks are trading up on news they are about to get pounded in the arse with more fines and forgiving loan values to consumers? they might not have anything left in their teir I capital couffers after these new guidlines for HAMP are put to practice. honestly I was bullish on banks until I read through the 27 page proposal/amendment to the program. Banks are hosed.

The only reason to be bullish is that they are attempting to push the entire process along quicker. Would not buy banks for a few quarters though at least.
