  • McDonald's franchise operator settles NY labor case [View news story]
When lawyers decide that all jobs in the USA are required to pay a 'living' wage, it will be time to leave. The legal debate over what a 'living' wage is will cause massive migraine headaches in all thinking people...that will not go away. New Zealand and Chili seem nice....

  • Ford set to face third trial in 12-year deal lawsuit [View news story]
It's time to challenge these ancient franchise laws. Tesla is doing so, and Ford could certainly afford to join in. If nothing else, it might improve their dealers attitudes.

  • Ford set to face third trial in 12-year deal lawsuit [View news story]
Perhaps Ford needs to follow in Tesla's footsteps, and start "direct sales" to the public. Ever since Craigslist got big, I've bought all my cars there. I have the cars checked out by an independent mechanic, and have been extremely pleased with these cars & trucks, as opposed to that 'ripped off' feeling I always got from a Dealer.

  • Consumer Reports ranks automakers by consumer perception [View news story]
Ford's placing is amazing, when you consider the Consumer Reports 'trash-talk' on the reliability of the Ford brand...mostly due to the MyTouch system. I believe MyTouch is always sold as an option, which confuses me relative to CR's Ford downgrades. (prejudice?). Since it is becoming extremely clear that a car driver's mind needs to be fully on driving and not on cell phone discussions, etc, I hope they leave this as an option.

  • A Number Of Reasons Why I'm Staying Long On Shares Of Ford Motor Company [View article]
Thanks Cbroncos, I hope you (and Ford) are right about sales not going down this year. If we started generating more jobs in our economy, that would certainly help auto sales! This is where the total number of people working (labor participation rate) is the most significant factor, I think, and it keeps going down. Worry.

  • 7 Reasons Why Ford Is My Favorite Long [View article]
Good article, Proud American! Grateful, I'm in a similar position, with some 10's of thousands of shares. For the first time in years, I'm worried about 2014. If the new trucks aren't available until late 2014 or early 2015...the sales of existing models will drop a bunch. Combine that with all the other product launches this year, and it could hurt the stock badly. The dividend should stay intact, so we can weather the 2014 storm. Starting in 2015, I worry about a host of new auto plants being built in the US by foreign (Volkswagon - 2x, Toyota, etc) auto companies. If the World economy slides back into depression, that will pressure all the auto companies??? I'm planning to diversify, after a (hoped for) early 2014 pop.

GGGL, et al. I have another concern for 2014 I'd like opinion's on, as I'm holding a lot (for me) of Ford. Relative to the rollout of the new F150, I was surprised to hear that the new versions won't be available until the end of 2014. Couldn't that crush the sales of Ford's most profitable vehicle through 2014, as buyers wait for the "new and improved" model? Thanks for your inputs.

The truck will also accelerate better, Force=Mass X Acceleration or A=F/M. Decrease the mass, and (for the same engine) the acceleration goes up.

Let's hope the Chinese government doesn't react to this by 'suppressing' the barbarians. They have been xenophobic...for thousands of years.

Bram, wouldn't a comparison to Siemens have been better than Honeywell? That seems more 'apples-to-apples'. Good article, though.

  • EPA's new carbon rules hurt coal, could accelerate shift to natural gas [View news story]
News....CE claims on Wikipedia that they can produce ethanol from any hydrocarbon (including coal) for $1.50 to $1.70 per gallon. Seems economical to some folks. Celanese is building plants in Indonesia, China and Texas...using their TCX (?) technology. Under current Federal law, gasoline additive ethanol MUST be made from corn...hmmm. Whether its graft/corruption or just plain 'stupid', the shame of living under the Dumb & Dumber ruling class (ie lawyers, bankers, union thugs...) requires mental separation from our politics...
