  • The Stock Market Is Rigged! The Stock Market Is Not Rigged! [View article]
I don't understand your point. You want to increase the spread and think that small traders will benefit from that? Explain.

Also, you said "small traders who use limit orders are not likely to be impacted by the HFT".
    So what's your point again?

  • IBM's Shares Finally Break Out: Are We In For Further Gains? [View article]
I do agree with the above points. If I was a trader, I would have sold at 195 on Tuesday. I'm not sure what time frame texw was referring to.
I still have not sold, as I bought IBM (cost basis 180) in my retirement account based on the long-term accumulation and dividend yield.
texw was right in the short-term, but we shall see in the long-term. If price action stalls at 187-196, an earnings crush would send this over 200.
I would probably sell after a few days of euphoria (even in my retirement account- why not, right?)

  • Alamos Gold: A Beaten-Down Gold Miner That Will Soon Catch Up To Its Peers [View article]
Ugh. Not only do investors have to deal with the perception of "low" inflation, but costs rising as inflation clearly does.
And there are governments to deal with.
I have been watching AGI, but won't invest until it goes lower. Why not buy an index like GDX, or maybe the lower volume RING? At least until these individual stocks figure out costs and sovereign risk. That's assuming you want to invest in gold miners.
disclaimer- I own GG and AEM

OK from a shorter time frame perspective, what you're saying is feasible. Maybe some puts, or shorting while people possibly take profits. I was using EMA, not MA; However, They're still really close, and I remain bullish.
    I'm not going to sell.

If shares continue to rise into earnings, I may take profits... from my experience, an aggressive price move up prior to earnings is a good time to sell. It's a lose-lose with a huge market cap stock...a beat is likely priced in, and a miss is a guaranteed sell-off.

There may be some selling from weak hands looking to earn 0%, but that doesn't mean the price action isn't completely different this time.
Last summer, you had a 'death cross' with prices running into resistance at the moving averages. This time, you have all the MAs pointing up with a potential 'golden cross' about to occur. Daily time frame of course.
Tech analysis isn't a guarantee, but I won't be selling. There was long-term accumulation and a strong triple bottom at 170. I see no need to sell from technical standpoint.

  • Why Was GDXJ So Much Stronger Than GDX Today, 1/13/14? [View instapost]
I was waiting for bigger miners to start acquiring.
It's probably cheaper to acquire than to explore at this point.

GDX is already lower than it was at the July lows in gold. There may be problems if gold loses its 1180 support, but it seems that GDX has already priced in further drops in gold prices.
You have several miners that could be establishing new uptrends (at least i'm hopeful). Check out the PAAS chart, huge accumulation base on AEM.
GDX is staging a nice rally , at least for today.

  • GDX/NUGT Gold Mining ETFs Continue With Failure To Launch Today, 12/18/13 [View instapost]
    Holding strong on GDX.
I sold some otm weekly calls that expire next week. Ex-div of .45 coming this month which helps with recent selling.
It's not like the Fed did anything surprising. I was most surprised the major indices went up so much.
