  • Obama's 'Buy American' Plan May Meet China's Export-Led Growth in 2009 [View article]
Manufacturing industries which have competitive advantage in the world market will survive by themselves with little support. Industries which require constant government subsidies to survive have no place in the United States except for those essential to national security. If we want more new manufacturing industries, government should encourage innovation and spend money on research and development that is the way we come to be the Numero uno. Subsidizing dying industries is unsustainable. Remember half century ago the most powerful figures in the United States are in order of 1. chief of coal miner's union, 2. head of AFL-CIO, 3. chief of UAW, 4. the president of the United States. The no. 3 is faltering now. I believe the history treat us fairly.
