  • The iPhone 5 (AAPL) accounted for 68% of iPhone sales in Oct. '12, estimates research firm CIRP. That's down from the 90% claimed by the iPhone 4S in Oct. '11, and indicates a mix shift towards cheaper/lower-margin iPhones. Also: only 9% of Oct. '12 iPhone 5 sales involved very high-margin 64GB models, compared with 23% of Oct. '11 4S sales. If those numbers are accurate, they might have something to do with Apple's light FQ1 gross margin guidance (along with other things). [View news story]
    Dennis,
    Exactly.

    C'mon wyostocks,
How have the Dems catered to "lefty loons"? Was it the massive gun control bill Obama ramrodded through the super majority? Was it repealing the Bush Tax Cuts his first year in office? Was it downsizing the military on his first day at the white house? Was it repealing the patriot act?

Oh wait ...none of that has happened. What has happened was that he passed a healthcare law that private insurance corporations will profit from. He also loaned money to the auto industry at a time when no one would.

To say the dems have become MORE liberal paints you as really uninformed.

Hahaa Love A-10s. I was a Kiowa Warrior Driver for 8 years. Flew the same 30 year old aircraft for 3 tours in Iraq. We were beloved by ground commanders too. And, no offense, but we could land at their COPs for a cup of coffee and a debrief ;-)

    kwm3,
While there's no doubt that cyber security is crucial, the ability to take and hold ground will always win wars. If we have that capability we will always be able to hold out while other solutions are reached.

Also, Drones are nothing more than remote controlled planes. If they are cutoff from their controls, they fall out of the sky. If an F-35 loses radio contact with its command, there is still a highly trained warfighter at the controls who can complete the mission.

You're cyber attack argument is actually supportive of more manned aircraft, not less.

  • Apple (AAPL) has fired the manager behind the mapping software which put a cloud over the iPhone 5 release, reports Bloomberg. Maps manager Richard Williamson was let go by Senior VP Eddy Cue, who recently was put in charge of Maps and Siri amidst a management shakeup that saw the departure of iOS chief Scott Forstall. [View news story]

  • Android Is Dead, Part 1: Why [View article]
    @Matt C
You felt the need to make your first post full of fandroid iHate, thanks for adding to the discourse.

You also made stuff up and ignored the obvious. Anyone who has used Mac OS or iOS knows it's good software. If you want to tinker and feel Apple is too restrictive, then Android is for you. The rest of your rant is so illogical that you do other fandroids no favors.

"Linux is open source and used by your bank."

Um... Sure, for non-monetary systems. Our reports storage archive is Linux based, but anything that handles money isn't. Do you know the kind of risk you would be exposing your bank to is you decided to jump on an open source payments system and you lost billions?

Your posts have nothing to do with investing. You would be better served posting on a tech blog.

  • "It's not easy to make the iPhones. We are falling short of meeting the huge demand," says Foxconn (FXCOF.PK) chairman Terry Gou, suggesting iPhone 5 shortages aren't letting up. Another Foxconn exec made similar remarks last month. Analysts have reported Foxconn has enlisted a division that typically makes non-Apple (AAPL -2.8%) products to help address the shortfall. [View news story]
    Dean, excellent comments!

I was day dreaming how nice a 10:1 stock split would be. It just feels like the right time to take some heat off. From a layman's perspective I feel like this would allow the P/E to spread out a little. I know it would just be a psychological effect, but when has the market ever been immune from mindtricks? If anything thing, the echo chamber amplifies it.

Another point that the split from Samsung brings up is MAYBE they have something really innovative in the pipeline and they don't want to share it with Samsteal. The ramp up in R&D and exponential capex increases would support this, but the market has priced Apple like they're about to release the iBuggyWhip.
