Why Apple's Price Is Back To Pre-Earnings Levels [View article]
Good perspective. Keep in mind that sales in China were a surprise to some analysts. I project sales in China will continue to be strong and growing with good margins across the product linep.
Ok - now we're getting somewhere. You say Apple will not reach a trillion dollar market cap. Ok Mr. Prophet, when will Apple make its precipitious decline. At what market cap will it peak? What are the Chart "gods' telling you that they are not telling us mere mortals. Please oh Chart Prophet enlighten us.
The gods of disciplined fundamental analysis are telling me that QIII will be about the same as QII.(Much better if China Mobile comes on line)
Yoni boy, you are getting a bit nasty with the "idiot" talk. Perhaps you should post on the Yahoo site where that kind of engaging language is the norm.

One major mega trend that you don't grasp is that Apple is not a luxury brand it is an "iconic brand"; like Coke, McDonalds (certgainly these are not luxury items),
These is world wide attraction for the American Dream. That is why throughout many parts of the world the people love American blue jeans, music, culture, movies, TV shows, cowboys and cowboy boots and increasingly our fast food.
That is why in many parts of the world you can see people wearing blue jeans, sipping cofee at a Starbucks and searching the web on their iphone.
Bill, I am only commening on your discussion of cash in the second paragraph under "Other Considerations". Despite the forthcoming dividend and stock buyback Apple overall cash position will continue to increase. This is not a second quarter concern.
Further, right now, Apple's yield on its conservative investment of its cash is very low. I look at the glass as half full in that Apple has multiple opportunities to use its cash to increase overall return on equity, and probably to further propel growth.
Rocco, (serious comment) for the most part Apple bulls are not paranoid at all. But, we do tend to probably overreact a bit when Apple naysayers keep on yelling the sky is falling based with speculative assumptions. (I feel the same way when my democrat friend argue that Bill Clinton is a man of fine moral charcter).
Most of what is written about Apple is noise in my "opinion".(Unlike your absolute pontifications I have opinions which I think are correct, but might not be). A real truth is that even under a no-growth scenario (not likely for the foreseeable future) Apple will continue to generate huge amounts of cash even with the dividend and the stock buyback.. Even with an probable increasing divident Apple's cash hoard will increase, or mangement will find a way to parlay that cash (which is now earning almost nil) into sunstantial incremental value.
Rocco baby, you seem to be on a one-man crusade to bring down Apple's PPS. I think you have expressed your views in you last few articles (although I disagree with you thesis and your rationale) TRY SOMETHING NEW!.
If I were to pay you a lot of money to write a "bull' case for Apple I bet your article would be strong- at least it would be interesting.
This is a "technique" my wife and I use - argue the other person's viewpoint/pespective - why not do it on a dare?

Apple needs to further diversify its revenue base in an area where their many core competencies will provide incremental value; and earn a greater return than they are now getting on their cash hoard.
I am not the 'expert" to surmise where this strategic move might be, but I think you are on the right track.
Apple (AAPL -2.2%) responds to a weekend NYTcolumn noting its low overall tax rate. The company touts its U.S. job-creation efforts and charitable donations, and says it has paid $5B in federal and state taxes over the first half of FY12. Jay Yarow isn't impressed, pointing out Apple includes UPS positions among the jobs it has created, and that its payment figures are inflated by taxes withheld from employees. [View news story]
There is a positive spin to Apple's tax practices. According to some article I read other companies have followed the direction pioneered by Apple regarding tax planning. Shows that Apple is well managed and has the brain power and talent to be an innovator in things other than great products.

Good article, but I would point out that you can get better yields with MLPs and likely equivilent or better growth. Also, some of the dividends are taxable in the counties where the company is domiciled - even if held in an IRA.

For the Apple Bears - If you are convinced of your premis that Apple PPS will fall dramiticall suggest you buy some LEAP puts at the highest price you can afford - put $ where mouth is.
One very positive point on Apple is its strategic process. Apple excells at looking ahead to where the market will be, crating the products for the market down the road, and most importantly acually being the creator of the market. While SJ can be credited with a lot of this I think it is now instilled in the culture.
KenC - I agree. Accounting rules (GAAP) allow some leeway and I think QIII EPS in the neighborhood of the $12.30 they report would be "poetic".. I have done some back of the envelope analysis and at this point I am calling QIII at $12.35 with a bias to the upside.
