  • Is Nuance Really A Buy? [View article]
Quite a bit lacking for an article contemplating whether Nuance is a buy. No mention of half the cash on the balance sheet being used to buy back 8% of shares outstanding. No mention of the transition from license to on-demand revenue. No discussion of large IP position that is coming more and more into focus as the voice rec space expands.

The statement that Nuance will become dangerously reliant on Apple is based on what? How much revenue does Nuance even get from Apple? What about the HTC One shipping with the Nuance powered car app? Dragon apps on Google Play? Let's not forget that Nuance derives rev from many places, mobile being a small slice of the pie.

Additionally, there is a big difference between understanding a few select command words and understanding meaning, and Nuance is at the leading edge of natural language understanding.

  • Nuance Hit By Shift To 'On Demand' Services [View article]
Price action and volume show that someone is buying a lot of stock. I'd love to hear your ideas about the rushed earnings, the buy back and the recent volume increase.

    Thanks for a good article

  • Should Investors Follow Carl Icahn Into Nuance? [View article]
Stock was in the same place little over a month ago, so not the end of the world - plus we now have a lot of bad news priced in, very negative sentiment, lack of faith in management - could be looking at a capitulation bottom here.

  • The Coming Bond Market Collapse: 3 Ways To Escape The Damage [View article]
The world wasn't printing money for the last 20 years and Japan had a hawkish central bank. The fact that everyone is now resigned to sub 2 percent on the 10 year forever is the perfect contrarian signal to get short

But will the fed be able to prop up bond prices with their buying if everyone sees it as just that?

  • Invest In U.S. Treasuries [View article]
If we accept that markets look 6 months ahead, and we accept that QE will begin to taper in 2014, that means we have only several months before we begin to see the bond market sell off in anticipation of a 2014 QE tapering.

Surprisingly good economic news out of Europe, China, or the US could spark a quick risk-on sentiment, which, in combination of a fear of early QE tapering, could spark a run for the exits.

Another interesting point is to look at the technicals of TBT (inverse bond ETF) and see how nicely it is set up for a bullish run - golden cross (50 day ma crossing the 200 day ma), signal cross on the MACD, large increase in volume in the last six months, double bottom at around $59 big inflows.

Beyond that, consider how accustomed people have come to bond investments moving up consistently. A few monthly statements showing loss on the bond part of the portfolio could bring on a sea change in how people view bonds and further propel the exit.

The reward side of the equation is 1.7% on the 10 year with the hopes that future investors will be clambering for a yield even lower than that? And now I'm going to add leverage to this?

Sounds dangerous, I'm long TBT - cheers

  • Hedge Funds Are Buying These 3 Rallying Stocks [View article]
I'd hardly call missing by a penny a disaster. Nuance saw 29% revenue growth and 37% cash flow growth. The stock free fall most likely came from short-termers exiting when they guided for back half strength.

When you look at where the weakness came from, it was from a slow Europe, slow PC software sales and quicker than expected transition into electronic medical which reduced transcription.

Let's break down the weakness. Europe is slow, no surprise. PC software is declining. No surprise again, and considering how much Nuance has to benefit from mobile and cloud, that actually is a good thing. Third, a push away from transcription and towards electronic medical records is a perfect scenario for Dragon Medical.

I agree with the article as it pertains to the hedge fund analysis, but I would disagree with Nuance's precarious perch.

    Cheers

Thoughts on VR being just a commodity, a la Greenberg?

Helping them find a buyer, or just advising?

I think the pop comes when the average Joe realizes the potential for VR. People thought it would come with Siri, but Siri just didn't work all that well and people didn't really see the point of it. I think now is to VR as 1994 was to the Internet - yeah, it existed, but what could you really do with it?

Keep on eye on the coming pipeline though. We've got a big move for "smart" cars with lots of groovy tech, VR in TV's, voice ads, elec medical records becoming the standard and VR used to create them and code them, business wanting to keep up with competition in terms of automated phone.

The really pop comes when one company has a major hit with something involving VR, then all the competition will scramble to keep up. That's when the neutrality and specialization of Nuance shines and we all realize why a behemoth like Google really isn't that threatening to Nuance after all.

I'm anxious to see how well voice ads work. If it solves the problem of how to advertise on small screen mobile, that could be a huge source of new rev. Maybe then Greenberg and Cramer will finally see the light - lol

  • Should Investors Follow Carl Icahn Into Nuance? [View article]
NUAN buys position, growth hasn't even started yet. Let's not forget that this technology is still in it's infancy. A fully developed technology will allow you to speak to any device or generally into the cloud as easily as you would another person - in fact better, as it will understand all accents, technical jargon, etc. Essentially any button you push, screen you touch, knob you turn, key you press, mouse you click, etc. NOW - will be controlled with your voice in the future. Obviously there are exceptions, but you get the idea.

Eliminating competition and building IP is exactly the right move at this juncture.

  • 2 Major Catalysts For Nuance: Carl Icahn And Voice Ads [View article]
Don't understand why everyone is so critical of the acquisition strategy. I like that they're gobbling up potential future competition and filing away the IP they get in the process. Voice is the interface of the future, and right now it should be all about positioning for the coming sea change. My bet is Icahn simply takes a stake and does nothing. Only thing I think he would do is to say no to Nuance being bought as the short term profit pales in comparison to the long term story.

    Great article, thanks.

My view is that tech is about to take off and will lead the next rally, and it will be the little guys who lead the way. When Nuance stops being introduced as "you probably haven't heard of them but they're behind Siri," you'll know the time is at hand. While everyone else is talking about PC's and smartphones, the small guys like Nuance are quietly creating the next explosion. Wake me up when NUAN crosses $100! lol

  • Has Icahn Made Nuance A Buy? [View article]
He took a passive stake, perhaps he's simply just buying bargain shares in a great long term story. Or maybe he's riding a mean reversion short term. The balance sheet reflects an aggressive growth strategy, so can't see him trying to mess with that.

Good points in the article, and I agree about not blindly following him.

  • Heckmann Corporation Is Set For Future Growth [View article]
Shale will replace Middle East oil this decade in terms of US imports. Nuverra is the one stop shop for nationwide environmental compliance for those producing that replacement oil. Revenue growth in the coming years is the story here.

This in a way is a don't fight the fed scenario, the fed here being the federal government pushing for energy independence.
