  • Berkshire Hathaway Picks Up NV Energy In A Fair Deal For Investors In Both Companies [View article]
Can someone verify NVE's total earnings? The 2012 10K has $2.98B for NVENergy, $2.14B for Nevada Power company and $0.726B for Sierra Pacific Power company. Can someone confirm if these revenues are additive?

It seems overall revenue is $5.846B for the overall organization and similarly overall earnings is $664M. So the purchase of the equity is at about 8x earnings.

    Can someone confirm?

Thank you for the write-up. Love the analysis.
Can you expand on how the tax valuation allowance works? Is this tax reduction amount set aside for a rainy day or completely reduced so that the company is expecting too many future losses that it does not expect to be able to use deferred tax revenue anymore?

    Lambros, Thank you the write-up.

I wanted to ask you how you study an industry, general practices and how it works, terminology, etc.

Is it just by reading annual reports or do you use some other sources?

  • Pro-Dex: Are Stories Of Its Death Greatly Exaggerated? [View article]
Thank you for the synopsis. The 2 things that would make me want to consider SODI are the cash on hand and the backlog.
Where did you find the backlog $? The 10K says it is $5.5M. If the backlog is $14M, I would look at SODI again. Because that would mean that they will have approx $14M of revenue after losing Customer 1 and they need at least $17M to be profitable (operating profit) because of the economies of scale that they discussed in the annual report.
If the backlog is not $14M, they can easily burn through the cash on hand ($4M) in a year in SGA and research. The depreciation is about $600K so that isn't a significant source of cash either. So there won't be much left.
Please let me know about the cash.
    Thank you
