  • Will Recent European Economic Turmoil Negatively Affect EU Expansion? [View article]
britain is threatening to leave the eu. they are threatening to do so because all the people in the newly admitted states displaced by the "improvements" in the new entries seem to wind up in britain.

    that's before any recent issues.

people in "eu classic" states are growing in their oppostion to a negative feedback loop in which only germany and oil states benefit.

people in ukraine see their great grandchildrens' futures mortgaged for a coup and a war with their own citizens, staked on a medium term future after they have spent two more fortunes improving their structures to support eu standards.

russian border states see their peace threatened by the posturing of their politicians trying to gain the good graces of the centre and aid from the states.

i can't see recent developments, which are artifacts of all the mistakes already made, making things that much worse than they already are.

    but i'm a peacock in a graveyard.

  • Will Denmark Follow In Switzerland's Footsteps? [View article]
denmark is indeed different from switzerland. it's a petro state. > 20% of their exports are fuel. they have no overseas debt, others owe them.

but they have caught the eu curse, there is a widening gap between rich and poor there, even though denmark is one of the most socialist countries in europe.

ending the cap stands to make their energy exports worth much more.

decoupling with europe would enhance the euro's fall, and reinforce denmark's historic socialist bent, which is currently under attack by corporatists.

socialist states have a vested interest in proving that the productivity at any cost movement has been an utter failure, in terms of social cohesion, but more importantly in economic terms.

zero jobs recovery means no recovery at all. it's the masses which makes mass markets, not the kochs.

    just sayin...

  • Consumer Price Index (Biggest decline since 2008) [View news story]
averages distort the reality of a situation, one high number among many low ones gives the impression of higher numbers for all, when such is not so.

    summaries, likewise.

the release points to food inflation of .3%.
the release points to fuel and oil deflation of .9%, bending the cpi downward.

car owners, home owners and building owners got a nice treat.
renters and transit riders did not. lower and fixed income people have to cut back more.

  • Still Trying To Make Sense Of SNB's Bombshell [View article]
    eu qe.

russia is buying rubles with usd, leaving less of a pool to float eu debt on.

eu continues to play chicken with russia and is going to be paying ukraine money they don't have.

eu has expanded so fast, the western end, britain, is threatening to quit from all the economic refugees showing up there from the east.

eu continues to refuse to address the fundamental imbalance of internal trade- the value difference of agrarian products vs. industrial ones. the industrial states have actually forced the agrarian ones to ignore the wishes of their own citizens, essentially occupying them without troops and reinforcing a ruinous arrangement by threat of making their citizens even more miserable, and thereby destabilising the agrarian nations.

faced with the impossible problem of the trade imbalance, agrarian nations are demeaned and demonised and insulted by their industrialised counterparts. they are blamed for the failure of the politicians from north and south to work out the problem everyone knew was the major flaw, from before the beginning of the eu.

discussing that fact just leads both sides to call each other liars.

the only thing holding up the euro was the franc peg.

  • Call Me Buffy [View article]
    it's a p.r. campaign, isn't it?

other nations have boosted their production. prices have gone down.

so for other nations to get the price they want, they have to try to force whichever royal saud is ultimately in charge (this is, after all, an absolute monarchy) to tell their employees to pump less oil.

but it serves saud purposes. they have been wanting their allowance getting citizens to start businesses and get jobs. they have been wanting the other oil states to have less money to spend on mercenaries. they have been increasingly aware that states they have considered part of their regional bloc have been increasingly playing their own hands...
