  • PIMCO's Bill Gross: Continue to Short U.S. Bonds Unless Double-Dip Happens [View article]
I don't know where the truth lies, but Bill Gross was on television this morning and flatly stated that he is NOT SHORT us treasuries, nor has he ever been short them. He is under-weighted treasuries, which is, as they say, a horse of a different color.
He said a blogger started this rumor and it continues here. What about actual fact-checking before stated so unequivocally such an important position.

Interesting thought. Was it Robert Rubin,Clinton's treasury secretary, behind this, who then went to Citibank and some say a strong voice for practices which directly led to the crisis...and who has he now inflicted his son upon the country?

Odd. I went to a coin dealer Thursday and got nothing but gloomy news. May be an aberration, or a sales tactic but I am more cautious now.

    Jmsunline:
Interesting point about buying Enron.Ken Lay and the Bush family are very ,very tight. Geo.Bush senior flew with Lay in eEnron's private jet to his son's inauguration.
As you know, Jeb Bush was Florida gov. at time. Lay and the boys were dumping stock as fast as they could, but needed buyers. Was it fortuitous that Florida pension fund stepped in very timely,or corruption.
Similar event occurred with the calpers hugh loss in the Peter Cooper Village fiasco when its partner Barclays bank withdrew at the last minute because of concerns uncovered in its due diligence. That same info was given to calpers but they steamed ahead anyway and blew a gapping hole in the entire calpers portfolio.Hugh commissions and bonuses seemed to be the fault there.

  • Maximizing After-Tax Yield in Retirement: A Case Study [View article]
Dan did do well. After the carnage of recent years, and predictable ravaging of the dollar,an article using $100,000. accounts might be more pertinent.
But I see you practice in metro DC area, one of the few places to escape relatively unscathed, and where government money flows copiously.Government leeches,e,r contractors, proudly call themselves "beltway bandits."
If we do abolish government,or most of it, how will Dan and others in your area survive?

  • Why Bonds Haven't Blown Up [View article]
good point. I would add 30 billion a week frittered away on the failed(?) efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan is not normal or healthy when we are not taxed to pay for it....or will issuance of ever more bonds(borrowing) do the trick?
And reliance on paid mercenaries to do what a country's citizenry ought to do out of patriotism, has historically ended in disaster, just where we in America are headed.
