Richard Fox has been in business and the financial service industry since 1969. He started his career as a bond trader—private placements in the secondary market—with a regional investment banking firm. From 1973 to 1984 Richard was with a New York Stock Exchange member firm. He was trained to work in most departments of the brokerage and investment banking firm, including heading the investment advisory committee.
While there he became a Registered Principal, was one of the youngest ever branch office managers and later was promoted to Senior Vice President and Director of Financial Services. In 1979 Richard became a Certified Financial Planner and was co-founder of the firm's financial planning department.
From September 1984 to December 31, 1993 he was Managing Partner of Heartland Management Company, a registered investment advisory firm specializing in workouts of troubled businesses and investments. The firm also developed financial plans and asset protection strategies for wealthy investors and business owners.
He came out of retirement after the crash of 2008 because many friends lost fortunes in the market due to bad advise and violating basic investment principles. He authored the popular seminar "How to Protect Your Assets from Yourself, Your Advisers, Your Government" and has started a new blog The Shrewd Investor with his business partner Bill Taylor. The blog is at http://theshrewdinvestor.net.

The Shrewd Investor
Bill Taylor and I came out of retirement to develop this blog after too many friends lost 20% to 50% of their portfolio value in the 2008 crash. We were constantly being asked how we survived and prospered while they and their advisers were losing money. The blog is our journey and the basic investment
principles that have served us for the past 40 years. Since much of our business has been working out troubled companies and private investments, we bring a unique perspective to our investment due diligence.
