  • Google: New Adwords Algorithm Could Boost Advertising [View article]
I sure hope this is a significant improvement as our experience with adwords at verbdate.com, has been a let down. For example, we often see google placing ads for competitors in our pages which is fine as we are a free service and the traffic always comes back since the competition wants $30 a month, and when we have the time we apply some filters to the ads especially the "alternative" lifestye ones. This is all fine as we understand that Google shareholders want to see Google charging for more and more ads, its just that the adwords user has very little say in what those ads are and how they match to a semantic web page and its tags.
The big disconnect is when members see ads for "name tags" and "price tags" because the word tag appears in our html.

This got is thinking about building an ad engine based on tags! For example, some of our members will place the tags "yoga" or "snow board" in their profiles and rather than show them an add for a desert or an add for ebay snow globes, our tag engine will show them ads for "LuLuLemon Athletic Wear, or a holiday ski package to Whistler or their local mountain lodge.

To see this in action visit verbdate.com/tags.php and use the above mentioned keywords of "yoga" and "snow" and if anyone is interested in a demo with more information regarding verbdates Inverse ad engine and our plans to grow out this ad network please feel free to email me: john@verbdate.com

Ah a million relevant ads being seen by a million people a few million times a day, what a dream! :)
