  • Apple: Yes To iBeats And Yes To Paid Music Streaming [View article]
not sure how Ms Burberry will make all that much difference; obviously the stores have to be attractive (a clean and well lighted place), the salespeople enthusiastic and helpful (and under no circumstance condescending) and I would suggest at least reasonably well groomed; what the stores really need however are new products; there's only a handful of products available and customers basically know what they want when they enter the store; they are not department stores; that should take care of it; I'll settle for a lot less than 67 million!

was wondering myself; furthermore, I don't see how Apple could pull off this deal with less than 7 months study of it; so Apple's looking at it, presumably before Carlyle buys in, then Carlyle buys in and lo and behold Apple does the deal for triple the cost for Carlyle; scratching my head.

I am going to wait and see, for a while; but I'll be more persuaded to pull out if things start to go south; fingers crossed.

Carlyle invests 500 million last year in Beats for 51% interest; so, its worth maybe 1 billion or so; now a year later Apple proposes to pay 3.5 billion for this outfit? Sounds to me like the geniuses here are the Carlyle people, and the geniuses at Apple are out to lunch. Stock now down >1%. Maybe the plan is to call off the deal next week and have the stock surge at that point. Stick to making good products, guys.

I'm all in with Apple; if it goes down, I'm toast; my idea of diversification is having an iPhone, iPad and iMac; why? because they make great stuff and it always works; so they want to buy Beats to get "street cred"? Sounds like they are trying to buy cheap sizzle; that is really disturbing. Apple has design and performance cred; it doesn't need Dr Dre cred; all good things come to an end.

  • 5 Stocks Set To Outperform Into January Earnings [View article]
Seems to me that if you invested $78,000 to buy Apple stock which is now worth $540,000 (net value would be after tax), your dividend should be calculated on the $540,000 value; you are one click away from having that much cash in the account; the danger is that if you think of it as a $78,000 investment, you could get a bit more careless about protecting the current value, figuring that all that gain is somewhat imaginary. Just saying….

  • Why Apple Will Never Breach $700 Again And Remain There [View article]
Maybe SA should write the headlines (as editors write headlines for newspaper stories). It's pretty annoying to read the headline and then try to figure out what it has to do with the story.

  • Is Apple Making A Comeback? A Historical Perspective [View article]
Seems to me the flat trend line can be explained by the fact that no new products have come out of Apple (lucky to be just flat). But Apple is quite capable of having a white swan event (a blockbuster new feature) that would blow your charts away. Would be nervous betting against Apple now.

  • Apple Earnings: How To Tackle Saturation In The High-End Smartphone Market? [View article]
Am a big Apple fan, stuff and stock; but I'm getting a bit worried about management; I'd feel better if they were more aggressive and confident in their statements (hey! we're coming out with stuff that will blow your socks off! watch out Samsung!); also, these full page ads I've seen in the papers recently seem kinda unctuous; "believe us; were really good guys; our hearts are in the right place; we're from California...). Sorry, doesn't do much for me. Unless, of course, maybe they don't have the next big thing.

  • Apple (AAPL) has hired Paul Deneve, until now the CEO of French luxury fashion brand Yves St Laurent, to be a VP working on "special projects." No word on what those projects will be, but something design-related is a good bet. Deneve held a sales/marketing position for Apple Europe from 1990-1997. [View news story]
can't argue with any of the observations (good to know); but still wondering what is the message (subliminal, but what?); again, hope they get it right.

I've seen full page ads in the Wall St Journal recently for Apple; one has a girl in a car looking at in iPhone, window open, hair blowing back; curious thing is that the car has a wing window (the little window in the front corner of the passenger window); those disappeared many years ago; so what are we to assume? Apple is going back to the future? go for the geezers? whatever... hope they get it right.

Seems to me that the watch by itself is kinda geeky; but it makes sense to sell the watch as an accessory to the iPhone or iPad; thus, for an extra $200 (or whatever) you get the iPhone and the watch; makes sense not to have to dig the phone out of your pocket or purse every time it buzzes.

  • ITC Rules Apple Infringed On Samsung Patent, Shares Fall Post Session [View article]
cheating on its taxes??? that is a flat out lie; shouldn't SA at least put a warning note at the beginning of such an article: "Warning: this article is complete BS; read with appropriate skepticism."

  • Apple's Dirty Little Secret [View article]
Not sure I see much "actionable information" here; who knows what's going on at Apple, other than a fair assumption is that they are busting their hump trying to get out the "next great thing." It's been a painful 6-7 months, but I am going to hang in there, since this big drop and big recovery has happened before (as noted above). I am still hoping to get a wave of shareholders pushing mgt to give up the spaceship headquarters idea and instead build a modernistic radical building (look at Singapore, Hong Kong, etc); they could make it newsworthy by having its heating/cooling controlled by an Apple device and make it super energy efficient (I am not a "green" nut, but hey, if they can come up with something sensible, why not?). They need to get in the news with something interesting.
