  • The Real Experiment That Is Being Carried Out In Japan [View article]
Interesting read, and reinforces a fundamental point that's relevant here too -- the outlook for household formation.

A small typo in the lead quote from Keynes - he referred to "us" and not (the) U.S.

Nice article - clear and concise. You are up-front with your assumptions, and your conclusions make sense based on your analysis.

  • What's Leading This Sell-Off? [View article]
Interesting point - zero following right now too. I imagine that most people read them on the Bespoke blog site. I read them here to save time, although there's a few regular features that I go to their site for every quarter.
    Be careful out there, omooc.

  • The Ultimate Guide To Finding Double Digit Dividend Growth Stocks [View article]
I worry about the quality of FIN VIZ data, and I'll tell you why: Over a year ago, I noticed that they had Millipore in their seemingly wonderful heatmap of the S&P 500. Thing is, Millipore is no longer in the 500, and the symbol now belongs to MFC Corp (not in the 500). I wrote them a number of times asking about their updating policy and pointing out the error, and they've never responded or done anything about it. So, FIN VIZ might be well-packaged and convenient, but caveat emptor.

Can't get quantile splits from GDP data. It's not an income/wealth survey. It's derived from aggregates.

Nice article - you don't seem to suffer from confirmation bias, and it's never wise to turn your back on a sector.

  • Avoid These 5 Dividend Stocks [View article]
You say avoid, then scrutinize, and end up by saying how Buffett (who's no slouch) owns billions of IBM (but fail to mention how Berkshire ditched Intel in August). Not a good use of my time reading this.

    Tom,
I'm a working economist/statistician, student of finance, and a value investor. I'm just writing to say that I always enjoy reading your articles -- you present solid, grounded and often-difficult concepts in a practical and understandable way, and I find it refreshing how you always convey a sense of humility that belies your knowledge and attention to detail. Thank you.
