  • Nikkei: Hitachi in talks on joining bid for Alstom  [View news story]
I'm a little shocked to hear this as Hitachi and GE have been long time partners for many years and to have Hitachi partner with Siemens would be cutting for GE and Hitachi's current partnership.

That's what was in the contract to entice TNT to take their offer, which basically covers the work they (TNT) did for the deal and a little profit.

  • Plan C. Acknowledging there is no time to craft a "grand bargain" before year end, the President urges Congress to pass a stopgap measure, saying he'll immediately sign a bill allowing unemployment benefits to continue and preventing tax hikes on those with income under $250K/year.  [View news story]
I think Italy has a good idea, dissolve congress and relect them after we put term limits, reduced salaries and benefit reductions in place for them all. This job was not meant to be permanent but rather temporary by knowledgable people from the community. Our elected officials are out of touch with the people. They have no concept of what the middle and poor income people are going through, living paycheck to paycheck, moving from one place to another due to job layoffs, essentially starting over.

We need to elect people who actually understand what is going on in the world, not within their political group. We need elected officials to work for the people and resolve issues fairly, justly and expediently.

I have to agree. Instead of resolving the fiscal cliff issue, Obama is out campaigning in Michigan promoting Unions while at the same time taking digs at the GOP with his higher tax rates that will do absolutely nothing to resolve the deficit.

Last year Chrysler fired 13 employees that were caught drinking and smoking marijuana on their lunch break and were forced to subsequently hire them back as the arbitrator decided in their favor as they were on their lunch break. This is how powerful labor unions are. Ridiculous!

Chrysler should have a drug policy testing program initiated so they can fire them legally.

  • Might the Fed announce a new $45B monthly Treasury purchase program when it meets this week (Tues-Wed, to be followed by Bernanke press conference)? These purchases would replace those from Operation Twist, which expires this month. The Twist was notable in that its purchases were offset with sales of shorter-term debt. A new purchase program without sales would be far more expansionary.  [View news story]
I thought the last one was QE∞(infinity), seems it lost its charm.

  • Japan's Q3 GDP shrinks at an annualized pace of 3.5%, worse than a forecast of -3.3%. With the government revising Q2 from growth to slight contraction, it puts the country technically in a recession. The current account surplus slides to ¥376.9B in October, a bit better result than the expected ¥218B, but off 25% from a year ago.  [View news story]

  • The imminent demise of the Monti government and the thought of Silvio Berlusconi returning as PM sends Italian investors running into the mountains, with the shares plunging 2.2% and 10-year bond yields spiking 24.5 bps to 4.76%. Those of Spain jump 15 bps to 5.61%. The euro is -0.4% vs the dollar.  [View news story]
I'm shocked that they will let him back in power now that Monti has turned Italy around, OK maybe not around but better than before.

  • PetSmart Remains Overvalued  [View article]
I agree with Derek, in that at this pricepoint the stock seem overvalued. Going back to this past summer the stock jumped nearly $10/sh, but prior to that the stock increased its value steadily, jumps like that make me feel that it will drop by that same amount when everyone realizes its overvalued at this price. Needless to say that the author did speak about the looming issues with the economy and how it may affect PETM in the near future, so my entry price would closer to $60/sh.

  • McDonald's Or Yum Brands?  [View article]
I did own YUM and MCD previously and took my profits several weeks ago and recently got back into MCD. I did not get YUM although I am planning to, I still think it has a bit lower to go, but in the long term I think that anyone who owns either or both of these stocks will do well.

  • McDonald's Or Yum Brands?  [View article]
Have you heard of "buy low sell high"? MCD is a perfect fit for this mantra. YUM has not developed as well as MCD and it will take time to grow as MCD has already done. Due to the recession/recovery MCD has experienced difficult time lately, and I think that YUM will begin to show this as well in the near future. Yes, YUM looks like its on a tear, but I wouldn't want to own it when it experiences its downfall as MCD has, which should be soon.

  • Is Recent Insider Selling At McDonald's A Cause For Concern?  [View article]
I agree, I am long MCD also as the recent price is a gift comapred to where it should be, which is around $100/share. I also agree with the previous post in that I believe that the insider selling is largely, mainly, due to the capital gains tax changes being discussed.

People will always go to MCD for good, cheap and fast food. Their fries are better than Wendy's or BK and there are few alternatives in abundance as MCD. the few Tim Horton's, Friendly's, Panera, Chipotle, etc.. don't really affect the widely dispersed MCDs around the globe and they are still expanding into foriegn countries like Saudi Arabia, Turkey, India, with local menus that are popular.

  • Billionaire T. Boone Pickens' Top Stock Picks  [View article]
Itsa good entry price now, but I am holding DVN as I beleive that they are in the beingging stages of where EOG was a few years back developing themselves more towards crude with a balanced approach. DVN should be able to double their stock price in two years.

I agree that DVN is not so pathetic as the author depicted it to be. Yes, they are, were, primarily a Nat gas producer, but have begun transforming themselves into a major oil producer. They have massive cash holdings with minimal debt ratio, making them a nice stock to take lucrative ride up in the next year or two.

  • A strong early start to the holiday shopping season looks to be a bright spot for the stock market, but both could soon stall if lawmakers don't make progress on the “fiscal cliff” when they return in the coming week. Despite the promises of congressional leaders and the President to reach a compromise, many on Wall Street are betting Washington will revert to its old self-destructive ways before any deal is reached - and that could easily upset the stock market, as well as holiday shoppers, particularly those at the high end.  [View news story]
He saved nothing, but he did increase the deficit and in going to increase our taxes, oh he also increased the unemployment lines. So give him credit for that.
