  • Whiting USA Trust Is Likely To Lose Half Its Value In The Coming Days [View article]
Agree with Michael Cutler. WHX is overpriced and will fall someday but I don't see anything to make me think in the coming days.

Michael Blair: Please explain to me what they need $160billion for. If you beleive that the share buyback was a waste of money you obvious believe that they had a need for that much and thusly have a plan for it.

  • A Dividend Growth Investor Looks At AAII's Stock Screens [View article]
If a company claims that their picks return 400%+ then some sort of portfolio must have been built from them to be compared to the S&P.

20% monthly turn over rate. At that point you are no longer dividend investing. You are swing trading for capital gains investing from a pool of dividend paying stocks.

  • Apple beats estimates, but guidance disappoints [View news story]
For me the disappointing aspect is the cashflow.
$22.7b generated. $7.7b spent on divs and repurchases.
So they are now sitting on around $165 billion?

A Bitcoin itself is very safe and not hackable.
Your access to it and your control over it however is very vulnerable.

  • Icahn discloses fresh Apple purchases, makes renewed buyback call [View news story]
They need $150 billion to do that? Nobody, not even Icahn, is calling for them to spend all of their money on repurchases. He is calling for $50b in buybacks and $100b left over for the company. If they needed more than that then they should be fired. Obviously given their track record they do not and thusly the money is sitting there wasted.

COBeeMan: Yep. That reason right there is why I am little concerned about their future. They have positioned themselves very nicely for the inevitable rate hikes that will come.

I don't make portfolio allocation decisions based solely on what taxes I pay. For me there are many other factors. Keep in mind that not everyone has a portfolio outside their IRA so it may be a moot point.
Not taking advantage of something, "Wasting" it as MLPs in an IRA are called does not cause a detriment.

What would be a waste is someone working on their IRA and passing on an 8% yielding MLP and going with a 2.5% yielding energy corporation because someone told them it was wrong.

AAPL is in trouble if it needs $150 billion to be safe.

Given the fact that Jobs called Buffett to ask him what to do with the money... no they do not have anything in mind with the cash.
They are great at making products.
They are great at making profits.
They are terrible about redeploying those profits.

They did not need $150 billion to make the iPod that started their growth. They certainly don't need it to make the next iProduct.
    Keep enough money for R&D
Keep enough money for a realistic M&A.
    Give the rest to shareholders.

There might be better BDCs out there but the focus of this article was monthly dividends. There aren't many monthly BDCs. MAIN is one that I know of.
