  • Pacific Coast Oil Trust: Gauging The Opportunity  [View article]
Thanks for the analysis! I too am a mid summer 14 buyer. Real info on this trust has been sparse. You have answered a number of questions I had especially as regards cost/ bbl; v what I read of shale oil. I am thinking of adding to my position when oil and ROYT start to move back up.

  • The 'Real' Reason Gold Will See $5000  [View article]
I am looking to take some tax losses on gold longs to offset gains in stocks. Was planning to sell gold bullion and buy the same $ amount of silver to maintain PM exposure to a future rally based on the gold/silver ratio near 72. Is this week as good a time as any?

  • GLD: I Don't Think We Break Down... Yet  [View article]

Always enjoy your column. Especially since you are usually right...
I am more of an insurance accumulator, but what do you see for silver if gold sets final lows in the 1000+/- range in the next few months?
With the gold/silver ratio where it is some are saying silver is the better buy now, then cross over to gold when the ratio reverses.
    Would appreciate your opinion. Thanks!

  • Pacific Coast Oil Trust: Regulatory Fears Unfounded, While Units Yield 15% And Sell At A Discount  [View article]
Went long ROYT a few weeks before the fracking news and have been a nervous "stuckholder" since. After reading your thorough article and replies to comments, I am more comfortable holding through the Nov vote. May even speculate with some calls and/or short puts.

  • 7.8T reasons dividend tax increases won’t crush stocks: That's the estimated value of all equity assets held by retirement investors that are not tax sensitive. Though it seems counterintuitive, Lucas Kawa thinks an increase on dividend tax rates might actually benefit the millions who hold high-yield dividend stocks in their IRAs and are able to buy into a potential sell without being impacted by the rising tax rate.  [View news story]

Does anyone really think IRAs/ 401ks will continue to be "tax free" forever with the new and growing Obama re-distributionist (eg "give me more free stuff") majority dominating the game at the ballot box?

If so, think again. The demographic and social die has been cast.

  • The End of America? Not Quite  [View article]
What if I had taken all my $ savings in 1980 and bought Swiss francs.
Assuming equivalent nominal returns for the intervening 30 years, which way would I be better off in 2011 $ terms?

Therein lies the crux of the problem...our government has done us a massive disservice by practicing profligacy and charity while squandering the previously accumulated national wealth and subsequent productive efforts of its citizens. The $ has failed us as a store of value.

    My $.02 fwiw.

  • Understanding Economic Indicators and Why You Need to Be Wary of Some Interpretations  [View article]

OK, if the dramatic excursions in the mysterious WLI don't really mean anything since they are based on money supply, the stock market, and bond market (or other unidentified secret ingredient) why does ECRI bother publishing it, and if Rosenberg's conclusion regarding the relationship of the variability to economy are wrong, what is your "correct" interpretation?
