If $AAPL makes a low end smartphone, markets the heck out of it and prices below $NOK and $BBRY phones then Apple may bury the competition.

    • Energysystems: Eh, low end will just further crunch margins. Cook is the anti-Jobs.

    • Closet Iguana: The only ideas coming out of Apple at the moment is giving away money to stop the stock price slide. Not sure how long that will last.

    • REIT: competition caught up with them real fast its like top marathon runners running all together anyone tries to go faster they will close gap

    • DeepValueLover: Margins? If $AAPL goes an $AMZN route and decides to murder the competition in a margin war then what chance does Nokia and BlackBerry have?
      2/10/13
    • Energysystems: Completely different type of business. e-commerce isn't comparable to most, b/c of lack of margins. That route will ruin any tech giant.

    • Ghosts of Kariela: AAPL shouldn't go far a margin war, the stock price would collapse as the cash hoard is eaten up by competing with the android army.

    • Ghosts of Kariela: IMO apple should release a china phone but not more and then work on keeping regular iphone ahead of Galaxy.

    • Ghosts of Kariela: Then stab the heart of the hydra by building a siri integrated search engine, and an ad revenue system and toss google search on phones.
      2/11/13
    • Ghosts of Kariela: But an outright margin war would be suicidal for apple.

    • DumpsterDiver: The trouble is that their phones are no longer as good as the competition's. That "logo premium" is the last thing they have...
      2/11/13
    • DumpsterDiver: ...that the other guys don't. What would really help would be if they resumed trying to make next year's phone BETTER than this year's....
      2/11/13
    • DumpsterDiver: ...as opposed to, say, slightly wider, slightly lighter, or available in two more colors. Which appears to be Tm Cook's idea of innovation.

    • alphaRAJU: FYI I went to Walmart and asked the sales associate which phone she recommends. She recommended Samsung. I had my Lumia 900 in my pocket.
