  • Apple (AAPL) is working on a cheaper iPhone that could launch later this year, the WSJ reports. One source says the device could resemble the regular iPhone, but "with a different, less-expensive body." The cheapest iPhone currently sold (the 8GB iPhone 4) goes for $450 unlocked, putting it out of the reach of many emerging markets buyers, as well as some prepaid buyers in developed markets. The fact low-end Android phones sell for much less (sometimes less than $150 unlocked) has done wonders for Android's international share. [View news story]
Unnamed sources in the WSJ article all work for Samsung... Unless it comes from Apple - it's just noise to sell newspapers.

Adding to the vol collapse of the Nov Call options is the anticipation of the upcoming exdiv date on Nov. 07. The $2.65 div should continue to leak out of the call options over the 1.5 weeks..

Yes - an Oct ATM straddle is pricing about a $42 move in either direction at the moment on earnings. My model of 6 calendar series above and below the current price shows the profit potential has a good possibility of being reduced by 50% to 70% on a typical front/back volatility collapse on the earnings release - and current upside/downside break-evens cut by over 50% also... a decent move in either direction may quickly produce a loss.

Yes - my model of 6 calendar series above and below the current price show about a 50% to 70% drop in current potential profit based on a typical GOOG front/back IV crush after earnings. The current upside and downside break-evens would come in about 50% under the same scenario. A current ATM straddle is pricing about a $42 move either way. The modeled calendars could not handle such a move.

This calendar series (Oct/Nov) have not budged in the last two weeks as there is a volatility lock between the front and back month. The daily rise in IV of the front month vs the back month ironically enough is generally equal to the daily time decay - leaving the spreads stuck in the mud. Should be interesting the day before and the day of earnings.
