  • Linn Energy: In Need Of A $100 Oil And $4.50 Natural Gas [View article]
A very upsetting analysis. I bought LNCO near the bottom as a play on eventually-rising oil prices, but this article makes me nervous. Richard, if not LNCO, what would you suggest for those of us who think oil will go higher?

  • Analyzing The Revenue Impacts That The Petrobras Cancellations Will Have On Seadrill [View article]
As someone who has too much SDRL, it always bothered me how much of their business was with PBR.

Very informative. Markit has analysis, not just an index

  • Risk Of Grexit And GLD [View article]
Spot on, except I think the growing threat of Grexit will drive gold higher as people get more nervous. It's not all priced in.

  • Why Low Oil Prices Will Not Last [View article]
When you say "none of that debt will be paid back," are you referring to U.S. debt, the safest (most creditworthy) investment in the world? If so, you've instantly lost your credibility with me.

  • U.S. Oil Shales: Still Growing Fast [View article]
Charlie Munger says to leave domestic oil in the ground - not to prevent global warming, but to preserve it against the time when oil is truly scarce. From that perspective, Saudi Arabia is doing us a big favor by not cutting production.

  • Europe Cannot Catch A Break And Is Therefore Headed For A Break (Up) [View article]
Very well argued, makes me want to raise cash.

However, it also reminds me of the many articles James Kostohryz wrote circa 2011, predicting gloom and doom for Europe and from Europe. His logic was similarly ironclad (or so it seemed), but he turned out to be completely wrong.

  • Oil Inventories Drop More Than Expected, Less Bullish Than It Would Seem [View article]

That statistic, y/y increase, is not usually reported in the news stories covering the EIA release. Where do you get it?

  • AdvisorShares High Yield ETF Receives 5 Star Rating From Morningstar [View news story]
I was lucky to sell this above $52 after holding it for several years. Unfortunately, I got back in at $47, then bought more at $45. It's now 41.84. Obviously, it's been damaged by the oil rout. I infer it must have more oil exposure than JNK or HYG.

  • American Realty Capital: A Lump Of Coal For Christmas [View article]
I too am surprised the stock didn't tank. It has fallen below $8 for less reason than this. Could someone be supporting the stock for some reason? I had recently bought 300 shares at $8.20, and I sold them at around $8.20 when this news broke. I'm hanging onto my other shares purchased around $12.

  • Linn Energy: Finally, Some Good News [View article]
Does anyone know who Linn's counterparties are on their hedges? I wonder if there is any significant counterparty risk for Linn and the other hedged producers.

  • The Collapse In Oil Prices Rocks The Markets [View article]
JMajoris, does that mean I should give Bret zero credit for his picks I followed that turned out to be right? Taking 100% responsibility does not mean you can't give credit or blame when advice turns out to be good or bad, as the case may be.

  • The Collapse In Oil Prices Rocks The Markets [View article]
Bret, At one time all your picks seemed right, so I followed you into a few small oil stocks and got slaughtered. Fortunately, I took small positions in each and in fact sold long-dated calls, but that just dulls the pain. I blame myself more than you - lesson learned. I also followed you into GILD and MU with larger positions, and those are doing well. I also sold long-dated calls on those.
