  • The Collapse In Oil Prices Rocks The Markets [View article]
JMajoris, does that mean I should give Bret zero credit for his picks I followed that turned out to be right? Taking 100% responsibility does not mean you can't give credit or blame when advice turns out to be good or bad, as the case may be.

Bret, At one time all your picks seemed right, so I followed you into a few small oil stocks and got slaughtered. Fortunately, I took small positions in each and in fact sold long-dated calls, but that just dulls the pain. I blame myself more than you - lesson learned. I also followed you into GILD and MU with larger positions, and those are doing well. I also sold long-dated calls on those.

OK, maybe that is too harsh. But still.

  • Emerging Markets And State-Owned Enterprises [View article]
Another practically worthless article from this team that unaccountably refuses to offer the NAMES OF THE SECURITIES that are relevant to its investment analysis. Is there an etf that tracks the brilliant index you have invented? If not, why should I care?

By the way, one of the only securities actually mentioned in this article - Brazil's Petrobras - is given the incorrect call letters PZE. That's the Argentine company, Brazil's is PBR. I suppose this mistake demonstrates just how little effort this team puts into anything that might actually help the reader select an investable security.

  • Double-Digit Yields From Awilco Drilling Ltd. [View article]
I don't know if this point has been made here or in other AWLCF threads, but AWLCF is just about the most environmentally responsible way to invest in oil. The reason is that it apparently will not seek to exploit oil far into the future, but will just use up the value in its current old rigs. So if you think oil should be replaced as a fuel sometime in the next generation, this is the oil investment for you.

I may buy more if the price stays low next week.

  • Stock ETF Investors Should Track Junk Bond ETF Apathy [View article]
Long-term treasuries are not a hedge against stock losses if the reason stocks decline is because the Fed raises rates - or the market begins to believe that the Fed will raise rates. The best hedge is cash.

  • The Best Way To Play A Potential Silver Bottom [View article]
I trade SLW options the other way, selling calls and puts. It has worked fairly well.

SLW is an outperformer. Not too long ago it was trading $1 below GDX; now it is $1 above GDX.

My only fear is that other companies will enter SLW's business, reducing their margins.

  • BDC Results For Q3 2014 [View article]
Is there a disconnect between BDCL and the individual BDCs? The BDCs seem to be up more than BDCL. Maybe it is my imagination.

REITs have also risen, and your thesis may help to explain why. But BDCs are still cheap, and I think their clients mainly serve the domestic market.
