  • Less Is More: Why I Prefer Low Yield Stocks [View article]
"Dividends are subject to double taxation. Dividends come from net incomes after tax. After they are paid out to shareholders, the shareholders are taxed again. This makes cash dividends less valuable than cash retained in the business, which is why many companies are now choosing to return cash to shareholders in the form of share buybacks in addition to cash dividends.

Investors who save at least some of their cash dividends instead of spending them all must find new ways to reinvest this cash. After paying tax on the dividends and then commissions to reinvest the dividends, investors are reinvesting less money than they would have if the cash was simply retained in the companies instead of being paid out as dividends."

    - Very good point! thanks for the well put together article!!

ouch! I am actually the humblest person I know...

And, FYI, I have respect for Mr. Corson in the fact that he responds respectfully to commenters and carries on a good converstation. My comment was somewhat tongue in cheek, and your insults are quite moronic in that you know nothing about me.

  • Investors Get Another Buying Opportunity in Hewlett Packard [View article]
I am taking this opportunity and increasing my position! And, I think this new CEO will be far better than the last two - He helped run the largest business software company in the world, and came up through the ranks at the same company. I am excited to see him rollout his plan!

  • Why Every U.S. Corporation Should Have a Dividend Policy [View article]
As one of the shareholders of many publicly held companies, I can make the argument for dividends.

As the sole shareholder of my own company, Dividends are the most inefficient way I could possibly get money out of my company, since it is after corporate income tax, hence double taxed.

If only the IRS would let us EXPENSE dividends!!!

  • Comparing Heavyweight Tech Titans: Why Intel Is a Better Investment Than IBM [View article]
"My view is the McAfee purchase will pay dividends. Many analysts are missing the large and rapidly growing universe of unprotected network-connected devices: printers, building security systems, cell-phone switching systems, power grid controllers, HVAC systems, television sets, and video disc players"

--- I never thought about my heating system needing virus protection! It does seem the day is coming...

I like BOTH companies, and although there is a bit of overlap, they seem to me to be competely different. I own INTC and on pullbacks increase my position. I feel I missed the boat on IBM for now and maybe forever.

    Thanks for the great article!

  • Toyota One Year Later: Stronger Than Ever? [View article]
    Good article, thanks!

I think it was crap how our congress pulled Toyota in front of them for a "public whipping"... I would like also to see TM more transparent, however I think our Politicians and Media would just beat them more with it. I prefer Ford, but I have a huge amount of respect for Toyota and what they have been able to do in the world - definetly a world class company.

I am scared of the stock in that it seems the "impression" is Japan is not a worthy place to invest - I think that is going to hurt TM (but not Toyota). I am still a catious buyer of the stock.

  • Hewlett Packard: Buy, Sell, Or Hold? [View article]
I love hearing from an insider, but sure don't love what I hear! Sad to see a good business model change with the passing of the founders. My philosophy is to hire great people, get them whatever they need, and get out of there way - then try and catch the big mistakes before they leave the door. We recently bought a $40 hp printer online and commenced to spend 3 hours with tech support to get it working (now its a $250 printer).

I am a holder of this stock currently, but won't add to my position until it is apparent which direction the company will go. I have been glad to hear with Hurd gone that some employee benefits have returned.

  • Fannie and Freddie Must Go [View article]
Great article! Seems to me that it will be a careful balance for these entities to decrease so the private market can (and hopefully will?) increase. Ultimately as value rises and confidence increases, things will be make right... I would like to see congress pass a law limiting itself regarding bailing out ANY private business INCLUDING banks.

If the fed appropriately backstops mortgages (limits the loss WITH the right rules), then the government will be doing its job. This could apply to all insurance, especially medical - to bad we are a decade or so from sorting that out!

Housing situation should be better within the next few years...
