  • Dividend Growth Investing And The Benefits Of Being Patient [View article]
Nope. I'm concerned about the innovation part too. If I see something this Fall that looks awesome, maybe. I'm not a huge fan of buying a lot of the tech stocks. Some people love them, I just think it's tough to maintain their brand image/fan base for so long.

Great reminder of what the ultimate goal is for many of us DGI.

"When you invest for capital appreciation, and the stock price doesn't rise, it is very tempting to sell the stock and move on to something else, even if you still feel the stock is undervalued"

In my short investing career I sold a large chunk of my Apple two quarters ago. I wasn't happy with what they were doing and the price wasn't going anywhere, but it was still undervalued and a DG stock. I just let my emotion of seeing all my other stocks run up dictate my decisions. Looks like I've learned my lesson this past month or so.

  • Dividend Buy Of The Month: American Realty Capital Properties Inc. [View article]
I will have money to buy ARCP within the next couple of weeks so hopefully for me it sticks around these prices (or lower) for a little bit. Can't beat the price and dividend.

  • Are Any High Quality Companies Decently Valued At The Moment? [View article]
Thanks for the article DVK. It's interesting that out of the companies listed as undervalued 6 out of the 9 are tech companies.

    Keep up the good work!

I agree with Rose. If you want a safe, sustainable dividend look at the Champions with 25+ years. I'd buy DOW, but I wouldn't buy it because I think they will continue to raise dividends in a tough environment. I guess everyone has their definition of sustainable, but a company cutting their dividend from .42 to .15, 5 years ago isn't sustainable to me especially when they only still pay .25 a quarter now.

  • Under Armour A Long-Term Buy On The Recent Pullback [View article]
Thanks for the article. One thing I like about UA is college sports (and pro for that matter) are still mainly dominated by Nike and Adidas. If UA can secure apparel contracts with some big schools/teams I'm sure that would help them a lot as well.

Yeah, the 8% dividend increase is pretty weak for such a strong financial company.

  • Today's Market: Other Potential Buyout Targets For Pfizer [View article]
Agreed with the person above me. Failing to mention the money is held overseas and Pfizer is looking to purchase non-US companies would change the list of companies to look at. Doing a little more reading might have helped your case in the article instead of just throwing popular biotech names on a wall and hoping they stick.

  • Dividend Reinvestment Revisited: The Coca-Cola Millionaires [View article]
This is a very good article and I think beneficial to young investors. Although the argument can be made for hindsight being 20/20 I think if you stay invested in companies with a wide moat, and long dividend history you should be fine. Just remember, there's only two things guaranteed in life (death & taxes). That being said, I'm a relatively young investor and although I sometimes feel my 17 shares of KO, or 13 shares of JNJ won't be much, as I continue to reinvest dividends and buy more shares it will turn into a nice chunk of money in the future. I started out purchasing relatively small amounts of stock (I have a 1k max now for new positions), but my first purchase was 8 shares of ABT before the split, and although it wasn't a lot of money (and people will jump on me about the commissions) it's worked out well and I know I will eventually add more and continue to reinvest those dividends. Everyone has their own philosophy on how to start out investing but I wouldn't let a commission get in the way of purchasing a stock I plan on holding for 50 years.

  • Boeing to inspect some 787 Dreamliners for wing cracks [View news story]
This left out the fact that the wing problem wasn't Boeing's fault, it was their wing-maker who screwed up.

"Boeing said Friday that discovery of a 787 Dreamliner manufacturing defect by wing-maker Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in Japan means 43 of the jets have to be inspected for small hairline cracks inside the wings."

  • Exxon Mobil Needs A Big Dividend Hike This Year [View article]
Congrats Michael! You did what any great author on here tries to do, generate a rather heated debate. I don't own XOM, instead I own CVX, but I have thought about buying it. I can't say a yield of around ~2.6 would keep me from buying a stock because I think Exxon is more conservative with money compared to the other oils, but the lack of recent return definitely has been disappointing. I believe at some point in the near future with the underperformance of some oil majors they will spin-off to unlock value. Whether that's XOM, CVX, or BP I want a piece of those businesses for the long haul.
