Here are a few more thoughts about gold:

    1. "[I]nvestors . . . should keep metal bars under their physcial control, rather than relying on paper contracts."

    2. "Many analysts say the world is moving towards a de facto gold standard again as China, Russia and other reserve powers boost their holdings to diversify out of dollars and euros."

Thank you for your thoughtful comments. I apologize for not having responded to them sooner, but I just learned of them.

I agree with everything that you have written. It is a travesty. Moreover, as I wrote in my article above, there are people from countries around the world who try to enter the United States legally, and find the process daunting if not impossible.

My heart goes out to them; and they are the people who deserve our highest priorities, not those who come here illegally.

Yes, I agree completely. It would have changed history . . . and it would make for an epic novel. Write it! :-)

Yes, I agree completely. It is all over the news, as you know.

Also, the woman claims that JFK told her that it was better for his children to be Red than dead.

Thank you for your comments. Yes, I agree completely. What is even worse, however, is that those students who default on their loans might be sent to "debtors' prisons."

Most Americans do not realize that more than a third of the States allow borrowers who cannot or won’t pay monies owed on credit cards, auto loans and other bills to be jailed.

    Thanks for your comments.

Yes, I agree. However, I assume our military is on top of such launches, or responsible for them.

When all is said and done, I have great faith in our military, which is reason enough to sleep soundly at night. They are the best in the world, by far.

    Thank you for your comments.

However, Kennedy's recklessness and culpability went way beyond what he "inherited" from others. These qualities were engrained in him, and came very close to producing a "nuclear winter," which might have killed millions of people.

As I have written in the article above:

"[He] was a tragic Shakespearean figure who may be forgotten and consigned to the dustheap of history, in no small part because of the question of character that both Reeves and Hersh described brilliantly in their terrific books."

    Thank you for your comments.

I respectfully suggest that you read Pulitzer Prize winning investigative journalist Seymour M. Hersh’s “The Dark Side of Camelot," among other sources. As I wrote in the article above:

"Hersh states emphatically: '[Jack] Kennedy did not dare tell the full story of the Soviet missiles in Cuba, because it was his policies that brought the weapons there.'"

    Also:

"[T]he 'Cuban Missile Crisis' that Hersh documents in considerable detail . . . might have been averted if JFK and Bobby had used their back-channel communications effectively with the Soviet Union’s Nikita Khrushchev and the Kremlin."

Thank you, Dopamine, for your comment.

The executive order is no longer in effect. See, e.g., en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...

Without knowing more, I do not have an opinion about Kennedy's role in it.

P.S. That is quite a fish in your photo, which I assume was caught in the Keys.

    Thank you for your comment.

I too have great faith in the collective wisdom and intelligence of the American people; however, I do not believe we are prepared as a nation for such an attack. Bomb shelters were built by some Americans during World War II, and even during the Cold War, but such were few. The idea of having a week's supply of food and other necessities is almost unthinkable for some people, and several months' supply is truly star gazing.

With respect to blaming Obama, my reasons are set forth in the article and its footnotes. There is plenty of blame to go around in terms of not "hardening" the United States, which might have been done now for years, spanning multiple presidencies. The issue today, however, is to rivet attention so that actions are taken before we are too late.

Thanks so much for your comment.

No, I have not read the book, but will consider doing so. I just went to Amazon.com and read some of the reviews there, which indicate that it is riveted with typos and clichéd writing. It is a shame if that is the case. Sloppy writing and editing are generally signs of sloppy thinking, which detract from most efforts to convince or persuade.

I agree with the more apocalyptic view of an EMP Attack. The bottom line is this: America is not prepared for such an attack, which is THE major threat to this great nation's continued existence . . . and it might happen in an instant, as we write or read these words.

I urge everyone to read an important Wall Street Journal article that is cited in footnote 19 above. See online.wsj.com/article...

It is not just any article. It is written by the highly-respected Fouad Ajami, who is a professor at Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies and a senior fellow at Stanford University's Hoover Institution.

  • Is Redemption Possible For Tiger Woods? [View instapost]
On December 24, 2009, a friend of mine told me:

"I have a friend who knows the whole Tiger Woods thing personally. This is what he told me:

"Right now, Tiger is staying with Arnold Palmer in his home (not far from his house) and [Elin] is at their home with the kids. They are spending 6 hours a day together in marriage counseling sessions.

"The entire incident began on Thanksgiving Day when Tiger was lying on the couch watching football games and texting someone (it was Rachel [Uchitel]). He went to the clubhouse and first deleted all the text messages. One came in after he left and he was not carrying his phone. His wife had suspected a lot of what had been going on and had been checking his phone messages when this latest one came in.

"When he came back, they had a discussion which later turned into an argument. When it boiled over at night she took a golf club and hit him (he may have hit her too). She broke two of his teeth and did some real damage to his face. She started swinging the club and he got into the Cadillac and she kept swinging, breaking the windows. His facial wounds had NOTHING to do with the accident.

"His wife called the agent, Mark Steinberg, when the ambulance came and Steinberg met him at the hospital. After Tiger’s release, Steinberg went with Tiger to Phoenix to a well known cosmetics dentist and a plastic surgeon, where he was recovering for a week. Right now, [Elin] has no plans to divorce, although she has a divorce lawyer."

Here is an article that confirms much of what my friend told me, which I did not mention until it was confirmed—in whole or in part—by the media: www.naegele.com/docume...
