  • Apple: Longer-Term Headwinds Make Blowout Quarter A Tough Act To Follow [View article]
He is tenacious because he gets paid when people read and respond to his articles. The more ridiculous his articles are, the more responses he gets trashing and laughing at him. But he gets the last laugh all the way to the bank.

Unfortunately this encourages more and more rubbish in SA. We should just ignore writers like MB and then hopefully such insanity will go away.

  • National Oilwell Varco: Why The Market Punished The Stock So Harshly [View article]
What do you mean when you said "This means that the management rewarded itself with about 90% of the amount used for buybacks, or $700 M, which should be extremely frustrating for its shareholders." Please elaborate how did management reward themselves?

  • Apple: Asia Points To Blockbuster Q1 And Q2 [View article]
Chinese Renminbi is appreciating against US$ and significantly against Japanese Yen. It's not uncommon to see Chinese traveling to Hong Kong or Japan and buy as many iPhone 6s as they can. The profit they can make is huge.

  • Poll: Only 5.4% of U.S. iPhone owners "very likely" to buy Apple Watch [View news story]
Too early to tell. If users were polled whether they needed a smartphone before iPhone was introduced, most will say no. Only after they had a chance to experience what Apple could do to disrupt a product category did they realize they couldn't live one. No point speculating now. Just wait and see.

  • Update: Apple Xiaomi Problems Grow [View article]
Two issues with the article - christmas isn't a major holiday season in China and stop comparing Xiaomi and Apple. The target customers are completely different.

  • Asian Growth Sends Strong Bull Message For Apple [View article]
Michael Blair continues the insanity purely because the more he sensasionalizes, the more clicks and resposnses he gets and that means the bigger his pay check. So we should all just stop reading and responding to his aricles. Only then will he lose the incentive to publish one rubbish article after another. Otherwise, SA will soon be thoroughly cluttered.

  • Xiaomi: Copied Apple's DNA? [View article]
Xiaomi's strategy is nothing special if you live in Asia. Copy from the best, make just enough tweaks so that you can survive legally, then sell at rock bottom prices. To do that they have to keep their cost way down.

That has been the success formula for many Chinese brands. After the initial success, they will usually hit a wall. That's when they'll realize they can't continue to grow by copying. They'll have to invest in innovation and hire good but expensive people.

A few Chinese companies have made it - eg. Lenovo. But many more failed before they managed to make a name internationally. Xiaomi can go only so far by copying. They will face legal issues internationally. Let's see if they become another Lenovo or Tencent or they will end up in the tombs of the defunct Chinese brands.

  • Apple: Sell The Stock On September 9th [View article]
Trying to predict short term stock price is a fool's game. Sell only if you think current market price is overvalued relative to discounted future cash flow. Otherwise, just sit on your hands, ignore the near term price fluctuations and let time does its job. As Warren Buffett said - time is the friend of great businesses and enemy of lousy ones.

  • Apple Storing User Data In China; Veiled Attempt To Counteract Government Ban? [View article]
AAPL just broke $100. That's $700 pre split. Bears have been wrong for so long and yet kept writing negative articles with partial facts. We should just stop reading and commenting to cut off the incentives.

  • Coach: An Imminent Takeover Target? [View article]
Key learning for me - Fashion can suddenly change. Therefore investing in fashion business requires much deeper margin of safety than others. Never chase a fast growing fashion stock bcos it can just change without warning unless you have an eye for fashion better than most.

Having said that, i'm comfortable buying COH at this level and be prepared to hold it for 3 to 5 years to wait for the rebranding to work.

  • Coach: Trading Range Could Fall To $21 - $25 After Earnings Report [View article]
By the logic of this article, COH earned $0.59. Annualized EPS = $2.36. Assign a 10x P/E. Therefore stock should be trading at $23.6 instead of $35+ as of now.

Well.... as I've said, this type of analysis is just way too simplistic.
