  • Dow 16,000 Versus Its 2007 Peak [View article]
Great article and I agree with your view of the future. I like to look at fundementals like PE, but the main thing I look at is what I call my "man in the street" index. Worked for me back in 2007 when everywhere I went I heard people talking about how well their 401K was doing. I started taking profits then and it worked very well for me. I have not heard that yet in this run-up. I rarely hear anybody mention their stocks, 401K, savings, anything related to investments. I have however heard people talk about maybe buying stocks again. There is still a lot of retail money waiting for somewhere to go. One of my perma-bear friends even remarked recently that he should start looking at stocks because he didn't want to miss out. My prediction is for at least 17,000 Dow within the next 2 years. However, that's not to say I'm going to stay all in until then. Better to take a little off the table when profits are there.

What do you guys make of Tom's slip of saying "East Penn" when he meant to say Penn State when he was discussing NSC. He quickly corrected himself. Could be nothing at all but I found it interesting.

Thanks for making the pic available, John. I make my living as an IT consultant but can't figure out simple things like sharing a picture.

Hmm. I've used it twice and worked OK. It's to my dropbox account. Not sure what I might have done wrong. Here it is again.

OK, while driving around Aruba this week, I saw something that I believe ends all the speculation about the expected sales PR. I've made the connection from Axion to small island sales of the Power Cube. I expect the announcement later today.

First, in order to satisfy the whining by those who don't think sales are growing fast enough, the company has branched out into the auto parts business. Perfect lead-in to the stop/start business as well. Check out the linked photo.

Then, I saw a small wind farm on the north shore. See? it all makes sense now. Make a few dollars to keep the lights on by selling car parts while getting a toe-hold into the local economy.

  • Daybreak Oil and Gas Announces Second Successful Oil Well in Kentucky and Updates Upcoming California Drilling Program [View article]
Nice news for my favorite little oil company. I've been with Daybreak for over 4 years now, and the CEO is a seasoned veteran in the oil field and has big plans for this little company.

    John,
Let me add one more comment wishing you well. Ever since I first heard about ePower I've been more excited about that sector than any other that Axion is involved with. Now I'm even more so. I may even have to buy more shares today!

HAHA. Very nice post GS, and I could not agree more. Don't get a chance to post much due to work taking priority, but do like to check in and see the news. Without the posts you describe, wouldn't take me long at all to catch up.

  • Is the sun rising on Daybreak Oil and Gas? [View instapost]
The future keeps looking brighter for my favorite little oil company. With the 7 new wells drilled in the spring production has doubled. This week they announced a deal with a small producer in Kentucky to drill some shallow wells with a 25% working interest. The best part of the deal is the reduction in the interest rate on their credit line from 18% to 12, along with an increase in the line from $20M to $50M. The CEO told me they would be looking for other opportunities once those new wells were on line. The next 10Q will be out mid-October and should show much-improved cash flow.

I as well, GT. I overpaid as I had meetings all morning so I put in a limit buy before open for 30K at @14. I ended up at the HOD but in a few years I don't think I'll be too concerned.

So far, so good. Seven successful development wells added to the mix. Production numbers for the first 2 of them were 25 barrels each, which equates to about 18 per day for Daybreak. Figures for the other 5 should be out any day. I'm expecting the total share for Daybreak will be in the 60-70 barrels per day range.

Share trading volume has been increasing lately and spiked yesterday with Rob Goldman article. I'm not impressed with him, but any exposure can only help in the long run.

Next up, permitting and site buildup for 5-7 more wells this fall. CEO assured me that the recent successes puts them in the black and there is no concern about payment on the outstanding debt.

  • Interesting Times For All Commodities And Investments!! Chapter 6........ [View instapost]
IMO, if they taper at all it will be very minor. I don't really care as I don't see much effect on the economy either way.

What I do find most interesting is the recent jump in t-bill rates and the concommitant rise in mortgage rates. I firmly believe that higher rates are in fact good for the economy as long as they stay within 200-300 basis points above the inflation rate.

A good friend of mine is a custom home builder and realtor. He's been bemoaning the housing market in our area for years. I've been telling him that all we need is for rates to rise and he would be busier than ever. I was out of town this past week and today he told me there were more houses listed in the last week than any other week in the past three years.

I told him that's exactly what I said would happen. Now, he is a glass half-empty guy and said yeah but there were no sales during the week. Well, in real estate you have to have the listings before you can have the sales. All of the new sellers have been sitting on the fence waiting to sell their houses for more money, but now they are thinking they better buy before rates go up too much more. That's what buyers will be thinking as well.

Since I believe housing drives a good share of the economy, I see nothing but better times ahead. I'm all for rates going up a bit more. It's all good unless you are a bond holder.

I'm going to add one here. You have probably never heard of this guy, but he got me into investing 35 years ago. His book is not about making fast millions, but it is about common sense investing for the long haul. His name is Roland Manarin and the book is "Manarin on Money". Lots of sage advice in the book.

    Hey Tack,

Gotta love SAN. Wish I had bought under $5 but I keep buying more any time it's under 7. I move profits from other winners into it and keep collecting that 11% return. It's put a lot of money into my account so far.
