  • Axion Power Concentrator 236: May 15: Axion Power Releases Quarterly Report For The First Quarter 2013 [View instapost]
Ok, gotcha. IMHO much better for Axion if it is an alternative fallback technology than a contractual clause that would allow the partner to gain full access to the PbC technology in case Axion goes bankrupt . That might give them an incentive to push Axion over the cliff at an appropriate time ;-)

Iindelco, makes sense - I get the first part. I wonder about the second part. If the PbC is that unique in its properties and its IP well protected, the only alternative I can imagine would be some sort of license agreement.

I don't quite get the "sole source" issue. Is this to protect the automaker from Axion going bankrupt or charging to much? Either way the only source for carbon electrodes and therefore PbC technology is still Axion Power, even if the battery itself is made by someone else.

The numbers are not entirely correct anymore, we're already at 28.5 cents per kWh in Germany. And this is not the end. The battery from "Deutsche Engerieversorgung" is currently the cheapest available battery. The downside is it is a simple flooded LA battery which has a couple of issues like gasing and the need for maintenance. I wouldn't want that thing in my house.
The real issue with LA is that you basically need almost twice the capacity because you cannot go below 50% DOD. And in winter you have to charge it slightly to keep it at this level. Lithium on the other hand is, as we all know, way to expensive. What we need is a battery that has long cycle live and allows higher DOD at a price that is way below Lithium ion. Axion should bring the mini cube to Germany, I would definitely buy one :-)

Ah, I see. This actually is the spec sheet for the Rosewater hub. Makes sense, but for some reason I was under the impression it was another system. Maybe because it has the Axion Power logo on it, not Rosewater's. $45,000 is a hefty price, but the components are probably top notch.

Just came across this spec sheet in a random google search, don't know if this has been posted yet: http://bit.ly/15a7vd6
I would really like to know what the cost of this system might be.

    > DRich, with 55 @ Sept 13, I would even consider this option speculation a rather conservative investment.

At this time, I'm seriously considering to buy some TSLA puts when I get hold on to some dry powder mid May.
Will see if the bubble holds as long or will implode before that. At this time it's really tulip mania. Only that this time around the wagon of fools has an electric motor :-) http://bit.ly/Y9Ts46

Just watching the paint dry as it seem's there's always someone spilling fresh black over it.
HTL, too bad the video is blocked at my place.

Thanks, John. So there'll be a chance to talk to management soon, assuming the conference call will be on the same day or shortly after.

When do you guys expect the Q1 conference call and what would be the latest date to release Q1 earnings? Last year they did the call on May 15th, but presumably they got some stuff to settle first this time and year.

It would probably be against his principals as national labour side negotiator, but now that the carbon sheeting is fully automated, I'm asking myself if there will be layoffs happening.
Great means for saving costs and at this point in time easy to argue ("I'm sorry folks, but we have to do it or we'll be broke...").

KentG, no problem: it will be 24x250W Jinko Solar panels with a Kostal Pico 5,5 inverter. I'm not sure about the Kostal converter that the installer recommended, SMA is much more common.

D Lane, I haven't fully gotten my head around it. It depends on so many things, e.g. how much electricity it will save. This is really hard to say. Every kWh produced by the PV modules will save us 13 Euro right now. Could be 15 cents or even 17 cents three years from now. We use about 6000 kWh per year in our house.
The real question is how many kWh storage will save us how many kWh in use. A couple of months in Winter, it won't be much anyway.

Given we'd still have to buy 30% of consumption and the average electricity price is 30 euro cents
    6000 kWh pa * 70% * (30 - 15) = 630 Euro p.a.
Let's say the battery lasts 7 years, that would be 4410 Euro. If you factor in the subsidy that would be 5730 Euro or around $7.500
How large the battery would need to be I don't know. I guess 4kWh would be OK.
This doesn't factor in that even without the battery we could probably use up 20% of the generated electricity.
