When I read the Pepsi thing, I first thought they were only selling it to Amazon employees. Wow! What a huge market...Prime will get free shipping on soda...I don't drink Pepsi. (no position)

Its obviously more about extracting some of those billions of $ from Apple's balance sheet. I'm sure the U.S. is watching, drooling over the possibilities.

That "hypocrisy" you speak of is really just marketing. Heck of a marketing team they have.

Lefty, what?! Do you know how many phones go in the toilet each year? Do you know what happens when said person gets the latest and greatest phone? The person next to them want one...

Then there is dropping, stolen, leaving them in cabs and soon to be ex-wives destroying them (should have deleted the pics)! All together, that has to be at least 40%/year! ;)

Gnawks -- Depends on the maker--but from what I have seen, the software needs to be reworked (rewritten, recompiled) to work with new OS's. I think anyone that is serious in this business would be doing just that, its not a big barrier.

Windows phone OS is not bloated, and really, the since 2000 rewrite, then Vista, XP, and windows 7, its only gotten more efficient. I dont have enough experience with windows 8 on a desktop to comment, but the phone is really good. Usually problems occur from 3rd party with regards to app code or devices/drivers--not windows/office/etc.

I didnt finish my thought...I was going start talking 64-bit software and 64-bit processor...but that gets into a whole other part of specs. ;)

I use a windows phone (provided by my employer), mostly because it has great Exchange/Active Directory integration. My main use is, ah-hem, as a phone.

I think the watch, phone and apple pay are really compelling in this iteration, even for me. The only way to really know if its faster/better than what you have is to go and compare them.

Back to Micron/DRAM - I do think that these phones move the needle on consumption. A new iPhone might get a consumer to go into ATT and look at phones, even if they end up buying a Samsung.

Um, no. I am betting its better at multi-tasking, both because of efficiently written software.

What phone are you using? Are you using apps?

OH, and that game engine they released - 'Metal', which allows game writers to get 'closer to bare metal' is all about reducing software overhead. Apple has spent a lot of time and money on optimizations that would reduce the need for DRAM. That tells me they are both prepared and ahead of the curve on software optimizations. I expect it is the same with IOS itself.

They get it. They control the platform, they can reduce their need for a very costly part. Money well spent.
