  • Bitcoin Crashed. Again [View article]
As long as the (mark to market) "market cap" of the entire Bitcoin supply is only $0.5 B (i.e. 10 t of gold or 9 hours of QE3) it won't take a big perturbation to move the short term Bitcoin price -
but in a few years when the market cap will be 100x what it is now we can pick up the semantic discussion of currency vs. money.

  • Now Is The Best Time To Invest In Commodities Since March 2009 [View article]
    Exactly wrong.

    Doomers are often right:
    Peak potatoes (Ireland ca. 1850)
Peak sperm whale oil (Global - ca. 1860)
Peak lifeboats (Titanic, North Atlantic 1912)
    Peak Cryolite (Greenland=world, ca. 1970)
    ...

Unlike what some economists think, demand does not always give more supply. There is such a thing as elasticity (or lack thereof).

If you don't understand peak oil - stay far, far away from resource investing!

Good to see more and more positive sentiment about bitcoin here on SA. 2013 is looking to be a(nother) great year for bitcoin and the bitcoin economy.

    2012 wasn't too bad either: http://seekingalpha.co...
    Nor was 2011: http://seekingalpha.co...

I agree. The trouble is that when I wrote my review last year, I did it on the 29th of December when the price was 4.2 USD - so I wanted to make two reviews consistent. Not my fault that bitcoin prices shot up at the turn of the year last year ;-)

    But thanks for the nitpic!

  • Financial State Of The Natural Gas Industry [View instapost]
Good stuff Mark. Keep it coming.
By now, my Henry Hub futures are well in the green - and the rally in NG hasn't even started yet.

The housing bubble aside, I'd say that "The Shale Gas Miracle" is the largest Ponzi scheme I have seen in many years. Perhaps ever.

Right now, the professional investors are drawing out while hyping shale gas and energy independence to Joe 6pac so the average guy ('s pension fund) is left holding the bag.

    Statements like:
    "New rules in energy"
"100 years of supply, and that's just the beginning"
    "Game changer"
    "Cheaper than coal (!!)"
.. and so on, just don't pass my BS-hype detector.

The Enron-scam was nothing, compared to this circus. This is of IT-bubble proportions:
"Don't worry about losses now, 'cause shale gas (WWW) is *the future*. Better be on the wagon. There is a "new economy" now."

    Ring a bell?

  • Is There A Best Way To Return To A Gold Standard? [View article]
    Good article.

You are forgetting one (outlandish, but preferable) option - to change to provably fair, un-inflatable, democratic "digital gold":

No need for paper dollars at all. No problems with receipts for gold.

  • The Future Of Global Energy Security Rests On The Shoulders Of (Gulp) Iraq [View article]
To claim that "peak oil is dead" when Brent remains at 110 for the second year running while Europe tanks and the US is struggles is a modern day equivalent of passengers saying

    "But the Titanic can't sink!"

when the ship had tilted 10 degrees and the first people were already in the boats
