    Nike doesn't expect to sell millions of the new shoe. Remember $315 shoes sell a lot of $100 shoes.

    In East Europe adidas had a lock on the market. The company had many of the world's sport federations on the pad. This was especially true of Russia and the satellites. Nike couldn't even sell in Russia. Once the Wall fell and Horst Dassler died, Eastern Europe opened up to Nike. Horst was the most powerful man in international sport. Samaranch was his man at the IOC. Once the spigot was shut off, adidas' influence ebbed.

    You forget adidas has Reebok hanging over it. It overpaid for Reebok and was a recognition it could never beat Nike on it's own.

    UA's biggest problem is there is no tailwind in consumer trends to propel the brand forward at extreme rates. Secondly, it is the anti-Nike. Retailers need a brand to keep Nike from absobing more open to buy. That will only take you so far. What's going off the shelf first-- a Nike or a UA closeout?

    historically, shoe retailers needed a brand to hype so that Nike did not get the vast majority of their open-to-buys. For years, they played Adidas vs. Nike. It's Under Armour's turn now. The shares are grossly overpriced.
