  • 2 Risks To Whole Foods' Cheaper Stores And Why You Should Sell The Stock [View article]
Trader Joe's has had so many problems with recalls in the past I don't get anything perishable there at all anymore - just don't trust it anymore.

Hmmmm...... I'm not Sherlock Holmes or anything, but perhaps this is a case of a bidding war with no buyers? (ominous mystery music.)

  • 2 Risks To Whole Foods' Cheaper Stores And Why You Should Sell The Stock [View article]
I don't think the above is necessarily a reason to sell the stock, but I do see some commentary about Whole Foods that reminds me of Apple in that there seems to be the belief that the company can do no wrong. Whole Foods is really facing a reality I think they didn't want to face a little - there is real competition and they are having an effect. This is a lousy, competitive business and Whole Foods will continue to do well as long as they really emphasize a great "experience" and I've seen new stores that are impressive.

That said, they have been incredibly foolish in not promoting their 360 brand more. They complain about not being able to shed the expensive image and yet, they never have promoted their cheaper store brand. I'm guessing that the 360 brand will play a larger role in the new, smaller stores but it should have been more of a focus before this.

  • GrubHub Sure Looks Appetizing For Facebook [View article]
I agree - 13.5% is pretty hefty for a small restaurant.

I'd love to see them split the theater and the hotel/hospitality businesses. I'd be interested in the hospitality business, I'm not interested in the theater business.

If MON buys SYT, would that not be a major offensive move against DD? I think DD needs SYT more than MON does but - given that, MON takes SYT and becomes an even more dominant force versus DD's ag arm.

So it's McDonalds fault that people are concerned with a restaurant stock that has a 1,073.29 p/e and a book value of a dollar and five cents? LOL, okay, fine. Don't blame the Hamburglar when SHAK comes back to reality.

  • Archer Daniels - Making Big Profits Despite Falling Sales [View article]
I'll throw in additionally that I quite like the recent purchases by ADM, including Wild Flavors. The flavors industry is fascinating in that the end product is something that is literally everywhere you look at the supermarket, and yet, it is dominated by only a few companies. With the purchase of Specialty Commodities and Wild Flavors, ADM is making some steps to try and not only diversify the business, but make it more of a "one stop shop" for its customers.

I do remain curious if they will take another try at Australian company Graincorp - ADM was denied when they tried to purchase it a couple of years back.

When this turns, it'll turn so fast it'll make your head spin. As I said above, the company may be great and do just fine, but the current valuation is absurd.

Keep enjoying that short squeeze - escalator up, elevator down and while this company very well may have a fine future, valuation is absolutely ridiculous. When this comes back to Earth, it'll be a doozy.

"Also a good point. Berkshire, however, cannot short anything so they are more market dependent"

Isn't Berkshire able to use options to hedge?

As for GLRE, I like the idea of the Einhorn side, the reinsurance side hasn't exactly excelled. This definitely does not follow the performance of Einhorn's fund, it seems FAR more tied to the reinsurance side of the business.

As for those who want to invest with an Einhorn-type manager, TPNTF is the symbol for Third Point Offshore on the pink sheets. Invest directly rather than via the reinsurance vehicle.
