  • Worries About Costco's Lack Of Millennial Customers Overblown [View article]
Why are they worried about younger generations when the older generations have the money and don't have a ton of student loans?

Costco is jammed constantly. I do think that there's a fair amount of things at Costco where you can find a better deal elsewhere if you don't mind shopping around a bit, but people love going - I mean, look at the people who herd around the free samples and block the aisles, acting like there's no one else in the world.

Costco has sold more organic food in the last year than Whole Foods.

I think personally, I'd worry more about Amazon getting more into shipping bulk but people love the Costco experience. I don't see it going anywhere and if you need it now, Costco.

Additionally, in terms of Costco, they're clearly winning over Sam's Club.

  • GameStop Is A Short Because Of Cloud-Based Gaming [View article]
GME will be irrelevant eventually. It has taken longer than people have anticipated but the issue becomes that EVENTUALLY this company has to reinvent itself pretty much entirely to the point where it may not be called Gamestop. Eventually games will go digital and if games go digital, why is Gamestop necessary when XBOX Live Marketplace works just fine? It will not be this generation, would not surprise me if it was the next one.

So, a long-term bet on GME is a bet that the company will successfully reinvent itself - not an easy task for even the best of management teams. That's not a bet I'm willing to make or a bet that I have any confidence in.

Gamestop doesn't exactly have much moat as far as I'm concerned - their used games are really expensive and WalMart has gotten into used games.

Have no position either way but I don't see appeal with the company as-is and long-term think the company will have difficulty trying to reinvent itself.

  • CVS Health Is Right On Target With Its Growth Plans [View article]
"As a CVS shareholder, I would like to know how many scripts they will be picking up. Also, as others have noted, what will be carried on the shelves? If the over-the-counter space will carry CVS inventory, will it be at a lower price point, consistent with Target's current pricing."

    Apparently around 96 million.

Apparently CVS will completely take over the section, which will mean OTC products. I am a little bummed about that because if there will be CVS pricing, it'll be more expensive than the Up and Up (Generic Target) brand.

I'm curious if people who check out at the pharmacy will be able to use the Extracare card.

" Or further partnerships for urban, small format?"

They've said CVS will be in the future, smaller Target Express stores.

Well, plus the 80 or so clinics. I guess - as you kind of noted in the article - does a great deal for market share and I could really see the relationship having a lot of benefits. If CVS is taking over all aspects of the pharmacy area, selling their OTC generics and other meds is certainly a plus, as well. Excellent article and thanks for the reply.

  • CVS Health Is Right On Target With Its Growth Plans [View article]
Am I crazy or does 1.9B for 1660 locations and 80 clinics that they don't have to build seem reasonable? If anything, this deal almost seems better for CVS than it does Target.

The question that I have is: is CVS taking over the entire pharmacy section (if I go to the Target pharmacy section, am I seeing target generics or CVS generics for example?) or simply the pharmacy/filling prescriptions? If you check out at the pharmacy within the Target after CVS has taken over, I'd guess you'll be able to use your Extracare card?

The fine details still seem as if they have yet to be revealed - I liked Target's up and up OTC meds (like their Claritin) so I'd be bummed to lose that but from the CVS standpoint I really am not seeing the downside to this deal and I don't think the price tag is crazy.

As noted in the article, really could be a great relationship between the two companies. Apparently CVS will also be in future smaller Target Express stores, too.

  • Target and CVS Health sign major partnership [View news story]
Anyone else think this is a much better deal for CVS than it is TGT? Demographics, all manner of tailwinds make me think the pharmacy business is going to be quite appealing for years to come.

  • This Is What Monsanto's Next Move In Wooing Syngenta Should Be [View article]
"And that whole MON being hated reason doesn't make sense. Syngenta is in the same business, doing the same thing, just no one in America knows about them because they aren't as good at what they do."

    Pretty much, yeah.

Syngenta shares haven't exactly been soaring in the last few years. I don't know why anyone wouldn't accept a buyout.

You went into expensive WWAV, sold the absurdly cheap GILD and now this is too expensive? (Shakes head.) Ridiculous.

  • Monitise Provides A Trading Update - And It Looks Horrendous [View article]
The thing's down 80% or so in the last year. I'm not saying that it's "done", but that isn't exactly a ringing endorsement. I don't have anything against the company, but after an 80% loss in a year, at what point do you think the story has gotten a tad problematic?

Good luck to you, but I'm still glad I sold over a buck.

Also: is Monitise done for? I don't know, but I do think that anyone still waiting for the company they'd HOPED this would be should probably stop waiting.

  • Monitise Provides A Trading Update - And It Looks Horrendous [View article]
What Paulo said. I'm sorry, but when Visa said that they were pulling back from Monitise and doing things "in house", that to me was the beginning of the end. Mobile money is absolutely going to become a bigger and bigger reality, but the larger players can easily go it on their own. Google, Apple, Visa and even players like FIS. They have the scope and scale that Monitise does not. One of the main attractions to Monitise was the partnership with Visa - it really legitimized in the minds of many investors what Monitise was doing and gave people the sense that it was a needed participant.

I'll agree with what Doug Kass says, too:
    http://bit.ly/1AZZPe5

This was a very promising company but it never could gain enough traction/scale and once larger players realized that they could do a lot of these things on their own, as far as I'm concerned that was it. Changing the business model also really didn't go over well.

I'm glad I got out above a buck and honestly, this was the last I'm going to be speculating in names like this.
